I plugged in the amp and it sounded rather fake and i was displeased.

But I let it warm up for awhile and read the instructions and found out
the settings I tested it on were not set right. Seems you either need the
preset or one of the channels (1 or 2) on.

At first try, I had neither.

After it warmed up and I got to twisting knobs, I got a damn good
sound out of it. Better, much better.

As far as modeling, the Line 6 Flextone III XL smokes it, but these are
my initial feelings and will give it a chance (of course).

    Hey Spunky,

I got a pile of never used Mesa Boogie tubes here.
Do you think these will work well?

    UPDATE:

Had a jam this afternoon and used the VOX with 3 different
    guitars using many different settings.

A side by side comparison with my Line 6 Flextone III XL.

I got to crank it up and I was very happy with the sound.
Much better today! The guest guitarist used it and liked it much too!

    It's a keeper!

    Vic,

Cram one in, let it warm up and listen.

You might want to do a test recording before and after and make sure you don't touch any knobs......

    Can't hurt!

    Vic,
Hope you don't mind me chiming in here? I have a Vox TonelabSE and on Brewsky's suggestion replaced the "Valve" with one from a Boogie. It's like Night and Day believe me. I was impressed before, but this is really something else.
Trouble is that now I have the Cornford....well I only use the TonelabSE for effects, so in some respects it's wasted now! DOH

I wonder how it would sound with a Celestion Tube-10 in it.

So far it's a great amp. As far as a different speaker, I'll guess
we'll have to see CB! I guess if I were to swap out the tube, I'd
do it at another time to really know how each modification affects
    the quality of the TONE.

It's a great size too! Fit's well on the front seat of the truck too!
And with the metal grille, it protects the speaker a bit more than
cloth. It's about an inch taller than my Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket
but other than that, it's about the same size...(which is cool).

And Lexie, thanks for the tube (valve) tip!

This thread has so many pages I'll need to print it all to read it on the train tonight.

I just got one of these and I'm loving it. But I should read more about the tube swap. Maybe I should consider that...

    I'll read ON!

515...i think the absolute best mod is the speaker out...(it already has a line out)
