I'm looking for an SG Classic in cherry. late 90's -early 2000's era.
Any particular reason for those years other than they will have ABR-1 bridge? You can find more recent year models easily with Nashville bridges which are a better design IMO. I have no problem with ABR-1 as I have one my 2000 SG Special and I have never let what type of bridge be a deciding factor when purchasing a guitar.
I thought I'd try and find an earlier model as:
A. I want one with binding on the neck
B. I have heard that the earlier models had slimmer neck profiles
All SG Classics have bound necks with dots.
As far as the neck profile is concerned I would play first if you are particular about it. All the recent ones I have tried are SG Rounded.
I would not trust online descriptions of neck profiles. Some people either don’t care or don’t know the difference between a Slim Taper and SG Rounded profile.
Ok, thanks. Were there different shades of red classics produced? I like the look of the translucent orangey cherry classics I've seen rather than the bright red versions.
I have one I've been thinking about selling. It's in excellent condition with the faded finish and no case. PM me if you're still looking.
I found one, it's a 2001 classic.
I haven't received it yet but it looks great. Does anyone know anything about the 2001 classics, if they differed in any way to the classics from other years. This one comes with an apparently original Gibson hardcase which I thought was unusual as most I have seen come with a soft case.
SG Classics from 2000 and earlier have ABR-1 bridge.
Congrats!!! You're going to love it!! I know I love mine. It's a 2009. I think I bought it from here.
Congrats on the SG Classic! You cannot go wrong with those. I have a few SG, but my 2004 SG Classic is my favorite guitar.
