So what's the goal weight and what replacement components did you ask the genie for ?
after all is said and done it looks like a wash to me
I just liked the idea of listing which items could affect SG's weight.
if u liked that, then u will like this even more…
Gibson SG Standard 2012 - 2.9kg 6.38lbs
Gibson SG 61 RI 2012 - 2.9kg 6.38lbs
Gibson SG Standard 2013 - 3.3kg 7.26lbs
I was a bit surprised that my 61 RI was lighter than my 2013 standard because my 61 RI has noticeable fatter neck than my 2013 standard and the large headstock but lighter it was..
my 2003 special faded weighs in at 6.95 lbs with grover kidney bean tuners. my '72 sg III weighs in at 6.45 lbs with '70's era grovers and a tone pros bridge. all i know is they are both resonant, light and comfortable to play.
2001 Special. 5.5 lbs.
Sweetwater S/N 031402 2013 SG Standard Reissue - 6 lb
Friend's S/N 0316XX 2013 SG Standard Reissue - under 7 lb (estimate)
Both of the above are built to old specs (hot hide glue at neck joint, no sleeve on truss rod). That truss rod condom on other SG's must weigh a ton.
Now put all the hardware back on it and weigh it again lol.
Lol...yeah...it is super light. I think I'll go weigh it again though...lol.
According to Sweetwater my SG 2013 Standard weighs 6# 14oz. I haven't weighed my 2011 SG Special '60s Tribute but it feels lighter than the Standard.
OK, I goofed. Re-weighed 6lbs 3oz.
why is my 8-lb baby boy such a fat pig?
that seems about right. although im surpised so many are over 7lbs. i would have thought the Sg averages at least 1lbs lighter than teles, but apparently its only about .5lbs lighter on average. (i figure average tele is between 7-8 lbs)
you know what doesnt effect weight but you'd think it does is an all maple neck. Mine (70s tribute) has a decently fat maple neck with a baked maple cap yet its not neck divey and weighs only 6.5lbs. weird.
By coincidence, before I saw this thread for insurance purposes I just weighed my guitars and noted their serial numbers too, here you go:
SG Standard p90's (Baked maple board) = 6lb 5oz.
SG Standard Limited (Baked maple board) = 6lb 7oz
SG Standard 60's neck (Ebony board) = 6lb 5oz
SG Special 70's tribute (Baked maple board (maple neck?)) = 6lb 3oz
Les Paul Traditional (Rosewood board) = 9lb 1oz
There sure are some light weight SGs in this post!
My lightest electric is my '67 custom shop Flying V which weighs in at 7.06 lbs and it's a tone monster to boot. My SGs are bit heavier although the Maestros must add a bit of weight:
2001 Gibson SG '61 (Maestro) - 7.50 lbs
2006 Gibson SG Classic - 7.10 lbs
2006 Gibson SG '61 (stop bar) - 7.40 lbs
2009 Gibson SG Custom (Maestro) - 7.33 lbs
Um. I style like my LP.
At 9.1 lbs. it feels about right for me.
'69 SG Special: 7.4lbs (with grovers, humbuckers and a TOM)
It's a nice change from my almost 11lbs LP Custom... Thinking of selling that one :)
My All American I does weight 2.77kg.
Really good for my back pain.
