No, it's just a bag that absorbs humidity and makes the guitar and the case smell like this.....If anyone decides to throw it away, jyst put another onenin there for humidity, maybe one found in a box of new shoes etc.

I worked for TKL's Cedar Creek Custom Case Shoppe here in Oilville, Virginia and I can attest it's an additive to the glue used to manufacture cases in order to mask the toxic smell of the lining adhesive. TKL in Canada is the sole provider of Gibson's cases and does the same. A lot of nice theories here but if you've ever worked for TKL you would know.

Many of those cheaper Chinese cases do not mask the adhesive's smell and you can tell instantly when you open the case what it's like without said additive.

Thanks! It DOES smell like most finishing compounds I've worked with in the last 20 odd years.

Thanks again. I thought I had the answer too!

My G400 smelled like the shop I got it from for months. Kind of a strawberry incense smell.

I just opened the case and it is definitely coming from it! I think every once in awhile I'll pop it in the case to renew that scent on the guitar :thumb:

Buffing compound odor would quickly dissipate and not continue for years like the additive in the case adhesive, especially as you wipe down your instrument over time. That odor would be gone.
