I bought a stripped 2017 Standard in Pelham Blue.

Black knobs, black pickguard, black pickup rings.

I have not been able to find a white tenon cover, but I did buy an authentic Gibson white batwing.

I’ll end up with something like a Tweedy SG.

Is this interesting or a travesty? Hardware is nickel. All plastic below the bound neck will be white, which is batwing, chip, and reflector knobs.

I guess I just want reassurance because once the holes are punched for the batwing, there is no going back!

If the alterations are pleasing to you, give it a go. But as you stated, it’s a path with no return. But technically, you could refill holes and refinish wood, but would be a pain, and may not look original. Choose carefully, Grasshopper.

Pickguard planet (chandler guitars) sells the tenon cover (no logo) with the pickguard. Highly recommended.

And it's only a travesty when it's vintage. As I'm sure you know late model standards and specials are a dime a dozen and there's no shortage of case queens so do whatever the hell you want to it. She's yours.

You won't ever make it a guitar your happy with. I'll do you a favor and take it off your hands for free. You can thank me later...

Then added another pickup to it...

Note: Guitar pictured is an Epiphone, but the general idea comes across.

Update, the white batwing I sourced did not cover the screw holes from the small pickguard. Pickguard Planet does not have the template for the 2017 Standard, so I'll be sending mine.
