There's actually some really good, really knowledgeable members over there.

There are also a bunch of kiss ass, kiss up, wannabe in with the cool crowd types, also.

Funny how many people thought he was full of it for declaring all sorts of changes he was going to make before he even had the thing in his hands.

I like to say, Earl Hooker didn't need special pickups or wiring harnesses, or different tail piece materials, or any of that **** to sound like the great that he was. Now a few peel and stick letters to spell out his name on his guitar, maybe, but that it a different story.

Think ol' Earl was thinking long tenon, or worried about the color of his binding, or whether his fretboard was one or two piece while getting down to business here?

Thanks, Relic61. I don't know about Melmord, but I was startin' to feel a little lonely. I find it interesting that while the horse was alive and trampling a couple of members, no one else came to help drive him off.
I hope that Sweetwater has clerical staff who watch these fora. They should. Knowing what we do about Mr Tourbus' veracity. known acts and stated intentions, I'd be suspicious of and loath to repair, under warranty, any damage to this guitar. Bogus claims add to the cost of guitars and service for all of us.

I wish I had seen the posts you guys put in that chain before they were deleted.
Were they really kind and gentle or were they actually dripping with sarcasm?
Either way, they should have not been deleted. The right thing for them to do
would have been to let the thread stand as it was for the record and lock it down.
Now it reads like a book with chapters missing. You can tell it was altered.

My last post in that thread was a reference to his misquoting your post.

Next time I logged in, I found this thread, so I don't know where it went
    from there.

Looking back now, I'm pretty sure he's a troll, and no-one will see a picture
    of him with that guitar.

If it was all a troll it was very successful.
So successful that it "hooked" 2 forums.
    Something well worth aspiring to.

Not being the healthiest person on the planet I've missed days and often weeks of stuff. I suppose I missed the original thread that prompted this one. And now I did locate it and if there were any remarks made that were foul, vulgar, threatening, or evil intended I don't see them now. Is that what ya'll are referring to? So the mods cleaned it up by deleting all the nasty remarks then I take it.... Hummmmm, shame that didn't happen a year or so ago when ...... ah, nevermind.:dunno:

So, I've been thinking about buying this brand new LP for $8,500 with an AAAA flamed top and then I'm gonna change everything on it when it gets here. You just gotta know that they used the wrong parts on it and they'll just have to go! And of course I'll have to take a power sander to the top and spray paint it with flat black Krylon as that AAAA maple top just has to be fake anyway!:laugh2:

Seriously, I don't think the guy was a troll, but it does sound definitely stupid to buy a historic and change most everything on it.

I went out for the day after I posted my last reply so I can't speak for what transpired after that. The truth of it is that he had the harshest post when he outright called us idiots and then notched that up a bit when replying to my 3rd post where I held him accountable. Prior to that I thought people were exceptionally 'light' with him. I'm sure my reply was hard to take just by it's nature of using someones words & actions against themselves to validate my point and in the end making them look bad. While I didn't outright call him any names it was certainly easy enough to conclude what he was, is and aspires to be by the end of my post. It is what I have learned to do here. Why call names & get in trouble when you can use someones own words and actions to prove a point for you??

I know he replied to my big expose' of a post and sorta lost it because I got some of it sent in an email notification. Unfortunately I have trashed most the good emails that contained now deleted posts but I did find one post that I made which was written because he hadnt replied yet. Maybe Biddlin or Melm have some bits quoted in email notifications they received??

Here's the only email I have left untrashed for all who care to roll in the dirt.

""I'm guessing the little bit of blood in the water (& the circling sharks) has scared away the OP from returning to be scrutinized, chastised and ostracized.

One new VOS SG guitar, two ETSG posts, three payments of $666 and... He Gone!

We will be left to answer these lingering questions without him. *Lets see who can come up with the best reasoning for buying a $3000.00 VOS SG and changing all the aged parts.*""

That was sent prior to his 'idiot' post and my response to that.

What kills me is despite the effort to stay polite enough and still broach a tough subject like questioning somebody's reasoning & actions, we get moderated like we did something awful. The truth is it wasn't that bad. Sometimes things are just tough to deal with just because of what they are.

I think the sanitizing done afterward leaves the mind to imagine the worst has occurred because posts were removed and the thread was closed. Why? because and idiot called others an idiot and folks took exception while pointing out who the idiot really was? That is just laughable and too Orwellian for me. Borderline creepy. But as they say, if we don't like it....Such is the way of the forum anymore.

By the way, Do we have a new Mod? This seems rather new behavior and unnecessarily extreme. More like the Marshall forum where a Mod goes through after everyone has had there fun and cleans up what is to be left behind for others to read. All without warnings given or demerits & suspensions handed out. That works for me too but at least you can let it all hang out there without fear of being punished because you called someone a name. Nope, it all just disappears without explanation. Kinda like what happened here...:ohno:

However, looking at the other side of it.....

You want the best SG you can possibly have.
You want that Super Godly Charismatic Distortion pickup in the bridge position.
You want that Angels and Miracles Beall Endall Orgasmatronic pickup in the neck position.
You want that Utopian Military spec with ultimatanium contacts toggle switch.
Gotta have control pots made by Santa's Elves during the off season.
Caps and wire from the planet Frenobulax (thank you for that Frank).
You want it to be nice and shiny.

You're gonna put all that super exotic stuff on a crappy old '61 RI ?

    HELL NO !

You're gonna get the best playing neck and body you can find.
...and there is nothing wrong with having a shiny guitar by the way.

    I have a 1965 SG Custom.
Not a reissue, a real one.

The finish has been stripped off.
It has 3 of Larry's PAF's in it.
It now has a stop tailpiece.
    It has Schaller tuners.
    It has a brass nut.
The frets have been replaced with bigger ones.
The neck was refinished in clear gloss.
    etc. etc. blah blah blah.....

    I love the guitar.
    It is MINE.
As of 2 days ago I have it 45 years.
    I wouldn't trade it for a mint condition '61
(unless the 61 felt and sounded better that is)

Maybe he's just trying to do what I did.
Maybe he's just trying to make HIS guitar.

(Now I'm all tired. Time for cookies and a nap....)

    I just had a thought.
    (Miracles do happen!)

    $3,000.00 for the guitar.
Probably another grand for new parts.
All the labor at whatever hourly rate = more money.
Time spent on project = more money
Time spent on forums arguing about it = more money.
All the aggravation provided by ETSG = priceless

Seems like a metric ton of money being expended,
especially if time and aggravation are included.

One might be able to contract a builder in here to make
the guitar and get EXACTLY what one wants.

Would one of you build a guitar for a metric ton of money?

    (Now where's the cookies?..........)

Speak for yourself. I get the demerits and threat letters just for using words one of the mods has to look up in his Funk and Wagnall's.
"Maybe he's just trying to do what I did."
Sorry Tony, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, until he removed it all, he's just a POS. After reading some more of the threads on that site, I understand where his philosophy and rhetorical style originate. There are plenty of radical modders and traditionalists co-existing on etsg, without calling one another "idiots." There are also plenty of truly "awesome new members" who are interesting, respectful and innovative. Their joie de vivre at being part of a musical fraternity comes from the love of guitars and the sharing of knowledge and experiences among peers, not flaunting their arrogance, ignorance and meretriciousness. Those latter attributes describe The Les Paul Forum and its membership pretty well.

By the way, 45 years ago it was just a used guitar, not a "vintage" one.
