    from the Strat-talk board:

a poster "saw 'Zappa Plays Zappa' last night at the Roundhouse
    in Camden, London. Superb gig.

Dweezil said that Gibson are going to be releasing
    an SG like FZ used."

I hope it is a modified SG Special, including all the electronic mods.

Bah... I bet they'll just f**k it up, just like they did on the Iommi SG (Both Zappa and Iommi had Luthier made SG's).

Even though I'm a great Zappa fan!

well, let's see what they offer. it's good to remember significant artists, and Zappa is one, as well as Dweezil. if it helps keep FZ's name current, and maybe turns on some people to his music, and if it helps Gibson sell a few guitars, I'm for it. I'd scoff if they turned up another $5000 "collector's item.' Pictures I've seen show Frank playing what looks like an SG Special with P-90s. Cain't tell about mods he favored.

Who can on these boards? Anybody know more about FZ's "luthier made SGs" than I do? (not hard, I know nothing, just like the music...) Tell us about Frank's SG...

If they don't screw it up
    and if it's not $3,000.00+
    I will buy one.

    My pocketbook is probably safe.
They will do both of the above.

The replica looks great, too. Here are the controls:

I'm not certain frank had a kill switch, though.

That ”baby snakes” is a strange animal. It has the Fender 25,5 scale length.
The replica looks nice, but the bridge is odd.... The original had a wide travel Schaller bridge – maybe he replaced it at some point in time?

I'm hoping it is the first SG, which was a modded SG Special.

Note the dot neck w/ binding:

So I want the "Roxy" SG copy from Gibson, not the "Baby Snakes" custom made NON-Gibson SG.

They are gonna screw this up very badly.
If they do it at all it will be a "mash up"
of all the FZ SGs and they will take
the worst features from each one of them.

That sounds like Gibson's usual method.

Gibson made a "replica" of one of FZ's SGs (but with standard wiring - i.e. without the electronics!!) and they presented it to Dweezil, a few years ago.... for the "Zappa plays Zappa" gigs.

It would be interesting to see what kind of job Gibson made of that model....

Must be pics of that somewhere.
    (Google is my friend....)

No apologies, buddy! Yes, in that case and so many others Gibson has had the opportunity to get certain things right, and like the case of the Steve Howe sig ES-175, were pretty close.

Others, like the reissue SG's of various era have fallen short of even the track record of the Les Paul reissues as duly noted on this board many times.

So far, I'd get the custom made "Baby Snakes" model which may well be cheaper than whatever Gibson will come up with.

This important to me...Zappa was a BIG influence on me musically in that I both dug his guitar playing and was influenced by him to learn to write and compose music, scores, charts, etc.

So for me he was the Angus Young-like figure that got me really into SG's as a progressive music guitar, much like many of you were inspired by Angus.
