NGD - Ugly Duckling MIK SG

That's a nice one. I had a 1998 for a while that was real heavy, LP like heavy. Didn't keep it because of that.

Okay. Maybe I’m nuts or being stupid.

In a nutshell, that nut is nuts.

Traded a Strat for a SG

Don't get a Standard, it's just a SG with a bit more bling to it. Get a P90 SG if you're going to get another SG. You'll fall over just like you did for that first SG. And hail to the wine red Studio !

Okay. Maybe I’m nuts or being stupid.

Remember that the nut only affect open notes. That is 6 out of 138 on a 22 fret guitar.

What can I expect getting a standard in addition of my special?

For a Studio closer weightlike to a SG, my 2008 does 6.4 lbs and has even less bling without gold hardware.

What type of headstock breaks are better than others for a permanent fix?

Almost anything that is not a 90° break. The longer along the neck, the easier to repair solid.

    Vintage potentiometers

Didn't know there were different ones. Looking them up, F5 seem to be made for plastic, so D5 I'd say. There's also a cheaper solution with the WD40 Specialist Contact Cleaner. https://www.wd40.com/products/contact-cleaner/

Is this a normal tailpiece height?

    So what's a normal tail piece height ... in 64th's ?

    Nut slots cut too low

Funny you'd say that. The thing I noticed when I first tried such a mix was how fast it turned to concrete, like one or two seconds. I learned that trick from an IBM Selectric typewriter tech that rebuilt one of the ball's lower tabs with metal powder and super glue on our machine. He told me...

Is this a normal tailpiece height?

Ahhh .. come on ! What fun is there if you can't argue on such things ? That's exactly why forums like this one were started and they are an infinite source of misinformation and ... anything you can think of actually. Like, let's say ... if pickup screw slots are all aligned parallel to...

    Vintage potentiometers

Just like most mechanical parts on anything, they require maintenance so they keep doing what they were designed for without failing. What you describe is what a dirty pot will do after a while. Buy a can of Deoxit or similar cleaner and spray the pots (all of them) while turning them. While...

Is this a normal tailpiece height?

What about a split hair ? Americans are known to use weird measure units, like that guitar is 9 13/64th bananas long. Or, you can head my unplugged LP sustain as far as 63/64th football fields away.
