Stock Caps on a 2021 Wildwood Spec SG???

Yep, since 2019 they've been using Luxe Black Beauties on all Historics: https://solidguitar.fandom.com/wiki/SG_Standard#Historic_1961_Les_Paul_/_SG_Standard_Reissue_(2000%E2%80%93Present)

    Why fingerboard binding?

Basically, it just prevents the ends of the fret tangs from sticking out with changes in humidity. I had a Strat copy where the ends were filled in with little wood shims, which was quite a nice touch for a cheap guitar.

69 SG Special—Help, Is It Worth It?

The logo seems to be a transitional version, having the thicker, more squared font of the 1970s logo, but still having the open "b" and "o". Interesting.

69 SG Special—Help, Is It Worth It?

Well it's actually an early 1970 according to the pot codes. It looks all original to me. My biggest concern with vintage guitars is whether the frets are worn or not. If they're original, they're probably worn and unless you can deal with very low frets, you'll probably want to replace them...

Best Source for a Build Year of a Vintage SG

I should state that the heel joints aren't a super reliable way to date, especially in the early '60s because there seem to be a lot of exceptions. @lawrev Pot codes are your best indicator by far. If you can't get a peek at them, or they were replaced, you want to look at the totality of all...

    2022 SG Standard 61 upgrades

A wide bevel pickguard and truss rod cover is a super easy (and reversible) mod that makes for a nice aesthetic upgrade, IMO. That's the number 1 mod I'd recommend for a '61 Standard.

    Randy Rhoads Gibson SG

Looks like he put a humbucker in the bridge position.

What pups did my SG come equipped with?

In 1968, it was still a sticker/decal on the underside. The engraved patent numbers started in 1975. https://solidguitar.fandom.com/wiki/Pickups#T-Top_(1965-1980)

bridge too high on batwing pickguard?

Yeah, I do believe the neck angle is usually greater on a batwing SG for that reason.

Fujigen has discontinued SG body type models

That would be great! Burnys seem to be the biggest mystery due to the lack of serial numbers and multiple manufacturers.

Fujigen has discontinued SG body type models

Fujigen models added to the wiki: https://solidguitar.fandom.com/wiki/FGN_SG_Copies Seeing how infrequently they were produced, and that they're still trying to sell ones built in 2017 today, I think I can understand why they were discontinued.

Custom Shop 61 SG Les Paul Reissue vs 60th Anniversary 61 Standard - what’s the difference?

Well, Gibson necks are all hand-shaped so there's variation from one to the next even if they're officially the same neck. But the anniversary model was specified as having a "Authentic '61 Thin" profile, and based on measurements I've seen, they are thinner than the average "1960 Slim Taper"...

Custom Shop 61 SG Les Paul Reissue vs 60th Anniversary 61 Standard - what’s the difference?

The 60th Anniversary models basically take the Historic reissue and add the longer early pickguard design, a thinner neck profile, a small bevel around the edge by the knobs and the sideways tremolo...

Long thread on the GearPage about SG's "flawed" design. Anyone else see it?

I have a rant for every predictable complaint or criticism. "tHe nEcK iS wObBlY!" Uhh, why are you putting forward/backward pressure on the neck at all while playing? It's a guitar, not a baseball bat. If Angus Young can flail around on the floor and jump off amps while staying in tune, the...
