There is something special about the 2013 Standards. They feel very vintagey to me. Mine is my favorite by a long shot and I've got a few to choose from. That's 60's wiring but if it's not bugging you just play the thing. Congratulations!
I tried some Duncan Antiquities and a set of 57 Classics. The 490's sounded and felt better to me. My Faded definitely has an "it" factor going on. It's a keeper.
The only SG I've replaced pickups in is my 2013 Standard. I took out the 57's and gave them to a friend who needed a set for a jazz box, and put in a SD 59 in the neck and a SD Perpetual Burn in the bridge. It's my favorite guitar. It can do anything.
I tried a few different sets of pickups in my Faded Special and wound up putting the 490's back in. They work well for me. They're called 490's because that was the in house part # for the original PAF's. If they were called Duanebuckers or something like that people would love them.
PLEK is a manufacturing tool. It doesn't require a PHD to operate and is fast and efficient. Every single guitar I have that has been pleked was capable of nice low, playable action right out of the box. That did not used to be the case before plek. Gibson does leave room for further setup...
I'm in the process of switching to 10-38 on everything. The feel and the sound are really amazing. I bought a bunch of .015's so I could swap out the G string on my remaining stock of .009's and .010's, and that works nicely, but not as nicely as the Hendrix set. So far I've used Pyramid, GHS...
