To clarify, it was M2M for the shop, not me. And an unwise spending decision no doubt, as I already own a cherry SG Standard 2012, SG Custom 64 in Pelham Blue, and a LPC in Silverburst… But I saw this and was floored.. and thought it would make the perfect mid-life-crisis self gift? 🙂 Ended up getting a very decent deal on it, actually! Red Tiger finish, ebony board, and Custombuckers.

I’m normally a sucker for a pickguard, but on this one I actually like the clean look - it’s part of what makes it unique 🙂

As much as it would be a shame to cover up any of that top, I do think a black PG would really look killer on it. And it would be unique, I dont think I've ever seen a figured top SG with one.

So looks are a HUGE part of most peoples buying decision. I mean, lets face it, there's a form of 'art' that goes along with these instruments!!! But, 'looks' aside, how does it feel, sound, and play? I'm an 'old guy', and I'm at a point where my priorities have shifted to the 'function over form' side of things. And with a guitar, to me, it starts with the basic body shape, either SG or LP, but then immediately goes to the neck carve! If that doesn't suit me, I walk away from it. Sadly, I'm finding it now difficult to play some guitars that I've owned for decades! But, a guitar like the OP has posted .... that's a Mona Lisa, or maybe an 'American Gothic'! True Art!!

If looks didn't matter, guitars would all be colored computer beige, Function is important no matter the age... but of course looks matter. I think most people want a guitar to be inspiring to pick up and play. Just like tone is important from your rig. I see the dumb arguments on forums saying that the audience doesn't care about your amp tone so we're wasting our time on it But the point is missed since the tone is actually for the player not the audience, and should inspire the player and allow them to do what they do.

That guitar carries the Les Paul Custom theme beautifully, with the tie bar and maple top. You just need the Les Paul Custom logo on the peghead. That is a beautiful SG!
