I've had a lovely Vintage G400 for a few years now, it's always been a great guitar but it was starting to have issues with some choked out notes, tuning instability and it needed a visual upgrade too.

First step was polishing the "worn" satin finish. Some spots were already shiny from arm wear and it was looking a bit patchy. So I stripped it down and polished it with some Meguiars Scratch X. It came out great!

Unfortunately I got pretty busy after that step, so it sat in the rack for a couple months. Over the last couple days I've finally had time to finish it up. First was a level, crown and polish of the frets. The original plastic nut was starting to give me some trouble, so I fitted it with a new bone nut too. All strung back up and it plays amazingly, I didn't put it down for awhile! These old Vintage models are such lovely guitars!

I've had a bunch of Epi SGs Only one had any problem at all, that being a fret board coming loose up at the nut. An easy fix!! Other than that, they were all great guitar; Played great, felt great, sounded great, looked great, etc! I did eventually sell them all, just to De-Epi myself. And, because I could sell them more easily than my Chibson SGs. Eventually I plan to build my own from scratch. That ought to be fun!!

I sold my old first-gen "Vintage G-400" back about 13 years ago when I was doing a "gear purge" (a weird, irrational ritual I have done a handful of times when some pieces of equipment were associated with a project that I thought brought "bad mojo"), and I still regret it. I loved the neck on it, and had modded it with some GFS '59 zebra humbuckers and a Vibramate/Bigsby. I should've just had it spiritually cleansed/exorcised or whatever to remove whatever "bad spirits" I must've associated with its use and kept it, because it was a killer workhorse.

This 2018 Epi Ltd. '66 G-400 Pro (bought in 2020 on CL) is by far the best Epiphone I ever bought ( finally great sounding electronics!), and the only SG I ever bought- I always love the style of the guitar but wanted to always try out Les Paul or 3:35 style guitars- me stupid !
it's my one Gibson style guitar for a mainly Fender guitar player but I love this thing.

It already had the coil taps on the pickups, but I also had the out of phase switch installed on the neck pickup tone control.
So this is an amazing guitar that looks 100% stock!
