The black with white pups is a 76 but the black and gold one is the new 2017 Custom. Really like it a lot. Very nice axe. I have 5 other customs two from the custom shop and it plays and feels every bit as good as those.
I think my friend had the stock pups out at one time and had another less experienced person doing the rewiring.
I didn't want him to feel bad so I didn't mention it. Didn't seem like a factory thing though. Guitar is solid although has been getting less action since the custom arrived.:naughty:
I haven't been this excited for a guitar in a long time. And oh man is it nice.
Equipped pups are great although I may put a P94 in the neck.
Without further adieu pics!
Meh richlite actually wears better and feels and looks indistinguishable from ebony, moreover RL is less susceptible to dry cracking. I have a few ebony boards and I condition them pretty regularly for this reason.
This black custom will be a workhorse. She's going to be changed to look like...
Oddly not at present. I was considering a black out on it with black open coils but now that the stock pups are sounding good I'm planning to leave it...for now lol.
I removed the backplate first to inspect the wiring and low and behold neither pup was grounded to the pots. Both solder joints had broken off. Moreover the neck pup was barely attached to tab and came off completely at the slightest touch.
7 minutes later after redoing the joints I played it...
