    2011 Standard incoming.

Gday Tom, well call me old school, but I just don't like PCBs. All the pots in the Vintage wiring kit are Audio taper 500k. I have the same kit in my SG Classic and it sounds and performs great! I like that I don't have to turn the knobs as far to get tonal or volume changes. Cheers, Scott.

    And the family expands.. NGD

Yeah that's nice! Forgive my ignorance but what are the pickups in these? 57's ? Will you be adding a poker chip? Cheers, Scott.

    2011 Standard incoming.

Update. Yeah it sounds pretty nice with the standard pickups, I think Ill leave well enough alone. It will be getting the vintage wiring/500k audio taper pots treatment though, just something I prefer. More pics below, sounds awesome through the mini Z. And a pic with its sister.... Cheers, Scott.

    Home Practice Amp

Yep, apparently the profit margin wasn't good in those models. Another great little 5 watt bites the dust! I was actually trying to hunt down a BadCat Mini (also discontinued) when I stumbled across the Z. Cheers, Scott.

10" is the perfect speaker size.

All good mate. Just sounded like you where correcting my previous post. Have a nice day. Cheers, Scott.

    2011 Standard incoming.

Why do you say that mate? Not a fan? I’ve actually picked the guitar up just now, I’ve screwed the bridge pickup down a bit to balance it out a bit better with the neck. That seems to improved the way it sounds in the middle position. I also noticed it’s got a PCB in the back, so I’ve just...

10" is the perfect speaker size.

I wasn’t comparing anything. I was merely saying I enjoy amps with 10” speakers. Like my 1x10” combo. Cool your jets mate. It’s a Forum. Cheers, Scott.

Help me find my”best year” SG

I’d go with an early 2000’s up to 2012 Standard like koaguilds. I’m about to pick up a 2011 Standard that would tick all the boxes you outlined. I think you’ll find the ‘61 reissues neck profile too slim. Cheers, Scott.

10" is the perfect speaker size.

I really like 10's. Some of the nicest amps I've ever played through had 10's. Notable standouts for me were Fender Vibro Kings, Super Reverbs and Tweed Bassmans..... Ive got a little Dr Z Mini Z with a 10" Celestion Gold Alnico in it that sounds great, and Ive got a 2x10" Marshall 1958X 18watt...

    Home Practice Amp

Dr Z Mini Z. 5watt, with an attenuator built in that takes it down to 1watt I believe. 1 EL84 and 1 12ax7, into a Celestion Gold Alnico 10" speaker. Its a little screamer. Quiet enough for practice on 1watt, loud enough to jam with a drummer and bass player at full power. Doesn't really do...

    Your three must have pedals.

Fulltone Fatboost. Analogman Astrotone. Polytune. So its Dirt. More Dirt. And a way to tune the Dirt. :D Cheers, Scott.

Amps - whatcha playin' these days?

Good thread! Thought Id breathe some new life into it. Currently blasting through a Dr Z Mini Z with a Celestion Gold Alnico 10" speaker. Soon Ill also have a Marshall 1958X 18w 2x10" combo to play through for "louder" situations. :naughty: Cheers, Scott.

    2011 Standard incoming.

Gday Folks, I’ve had a hankering for a humbucker equipped guitar for a while now, toyed with the idea of a Les Paul but they just never felt or sounded quiet right to me. I’ve had my eye on this one for a while at one of the local shops, he was asking a bit too much for it though. Curiosity got...

‘61 and ‘62 Custom shop reissues. Differences?

Yeah I mean reissues. Reverb only adds to the confusion. I’ve seen both on there with contradicting specs. Cheers, Scott.

‘61 and ‘62 Custom shop reissues. Differences?

Gday folks. I’m on the hunt for a ‘61 custom shop SG Les Paul Standard. While I’ve been researching these I’ve seen some ‘62 reissues come up too. From what I’ve seen ‘61 has the thin 60’s taper and the ‘ 62 has the more classic ‘50’s C shape neck. Is that right? To add confusion, I’m...

‘05 SG Junior on my radar....

Its here! Changed the knobs to witch hats within 5 mins of unpacking it. Gave it a run through my Mini Z with a Fulltone FB1 this morning...this thing RIPS! What an awesome raunchy sound! Only thing I don't particularly like is it has linear taper pots, so Im taking them out and install...

Looking to buy a Custom Shop 69 RI SG

Whoa that's a great looking SG. Whats the neck profile like? I prefer batwing SGs, and fat necks. This could tick all the boxes for my next SG... :naughty: Cheers, Scott.

‘05 SG Junior on my radar....

Cheers mate. I try to stay away from Reverb. This started as a casual look.... 'I wonder what SGs are on Reverb today"....
