NGD: 1998 Caribbean Blue Gibson SG-X

I get similar things with Reverb sometimes…it’s a fickle platform. I use the app instead of the desktop version. If it’s coming back empty on your searches, you can try to close it down and restart it.

NGD: 1998 Caribbean Blue Gibson SG-X

Sure - that’s true for the regular SG-X’s, but check the sold listings for the Summer Beach series in blue, yellow, and pink. They can go for considerably higher, and most are pretty beat up. The clean ones obviously go for the highest prices. Maybe $2000 is pushing it though.

NGD: 1998 Caribbean Blue Gibson SG-X

Yeah - look at recently sold listings on Reverb and EBay. They’re going for way more than they used to… The “nitro” that they used in these seems particularly prone to checking, so finding one in the condition like mine is very difficult.

The brown finish in mint condition probably is selling for about that now, but I think that would be a little high pre pandemic bubble. If it had wear on it, you were probably correct to pass. Mine is from the Summer Beach Series, which came in blue, pink, and yellow. The blue is supposedly the...

I am a fan of P-Rails. I have them in a Warmoth build. I’m pretty impressed with this 500T and its splitting capability on this guitar though.

I’ve been looking for one of these for a few years. They aren’t very common in this color, and all the examples that I’ve come across in the past were either modded or damaged enough that I had to pass. They usually have a lot of checking, cracks along the paint near the fretboard binding, and...

    NGD: 1963 SG/LP Junior

Pots are original Centralab, with a orange drop. Someone did put in a 2nd orange drop on the tone pot. I’m going to pull that. No issues with the funtionality though. Someone else guessed water damage and another person guessed heat. Maybe I’ll never know. It came from the Knoxville area.

Here’s a better pic of the weird checking:

    NGD: 1963 SG/LP Junior

I picked this up two nights ago. Apart from the cosmetic finish chipping damage and weird checking near the control knobs, it’s very nice…Lightweight, but not a featherweight, resonant, a full medium chunky neck, plenty of fretwire left, and it sounds like a Junior should. The fretboard could...

Thanks. Yes, we made the trade. It worked out well for both parties.

The guitar tuned up easily with near perfect intonation. Tuners are stable, Bigsby is functional and set up well, with pretty stiff spring tension. The action is super low, but has no buzzing anywhere. I suppose the short, square frets are responsible for this. It doesn’t appear that I need to...

Okay…I have the guitar now. Opened it up, and found this: There was some residue on the pots, so I wiped them off: Pot reads to 48th week of 73, so guitar is either a very late 73 or a 74. Also, it looks like the side markers have aged unevenly…but it’s kind of cool:

No Doubt - he’s very optimistic. And I wouldn’t pay for than 2.5K for it in cash…and that’s if I really wanted it. But as it turns out, there is a trade that makes too much sense for both of us not to do.

It’s not for sale - he’s only trading it to me because I have a guitar that he wants. So, that’s why it’s “cheap” for me. I’d assume that he wouldn’t sell it for less than 4K, which is too much.

It’s just that I already have what I think is the correct case for it.

So, do you think it’s original, or a replacement? I have this case, that is currently housing my 82 Hamer Special, and I think it might be correct for the SG. Any idea?

Great - if your serial is that, I’m pretty sure that you’re correct about mine. I wish that I could play it, but I’ve had this guitar in my hands before, and it was pretty tricky - I was missing a lot. Perhaps I can adapt, but I began with 2” classical necks back in the 90s. I can usually...
