If it was OCD, then the Vox cable wouldn't be allowed and you'd have to buy a PBR Rickenbacker like mine. :)
I use a suede backed strap on my SG Standard, though it seems to balance fine as it is. In fact I have a Tele that had a bit of a neck dive when I put a fatter neck on it (quite a...
I played about 6 SGs in the shop when I chose mine...I liked the feel of it best and also thought it sounded the best too. So what did I do within a few weeks of buying it? Swapped the pickups (and PCB wiring) for standard CTS pots and a pair of DiMarzio 36th Anniversary pickups. After another...
I'm cheating here really because I have two Tele necks, but three Tele bodies: The butterscotch '54 style one is just so heavy that I wasn't playing it, so I used the neck on my white blonde Classic 50s and in turn the 7.25" radius neck off that one went onto the Cabronita build.
Currently...
That's how I approach it, though on a lower scale to CS vs Standard USA models. I have one SG Standard that covers my 'Gibson with humbuckers' guitar option and it's a great guitar that plays superbly: I don't see the point having multiple slight variations of an Epiphone SG instead (as a...
My 2019 SG Standard has those too. Of course like a fool I took them out for something 'better', but after a short while I put them back (I did replace the PCB and pots because I didn't like the feel of the pots, so it's wired like yours now). I have a Les Paul with Bareknuckle Mules for...
I actually did put a set of 36th in my 2019 SG Standard, but ended up putting the '61T/R back in as it didn't sound as good to me. I did change out the PCB, but same value pots, except for a 0.015uF neck tone cap (as I always seem to do on my humbucker guitars).
I don't think it's specific to any brand; I've seen people complaining about those 'slabs of wood with a bolt on neck' from the custom shop being over priced on a certain site beginning with 'T'. Same on Marshall or Strat forums too. I actually got some sneering on a forum when I posted my 'new...
I didn't do the 4 way switch on this one, but it was a DiMarzio 36th Anniversary neck pickup and a Lil '59 in the bridge. I had the tone knob wired with a pull switch to tap the coil on the '59. I think I messed around with different pot values and dropped the tone cap to 0.022uF (maybe 0.015uF...
2019 SG Standard here. I think I'm pretty picky, especially as this was the most expensive guitar I'd bought at the time (since spent more on a Gibson LP Junior, but the SG lists is higher). Fit, finish and set up was perfect (I played about 5 SGs in the shop when I chose this one), I've only...
They've only recently started I think. I've been using 9.5 D'Addarios on my Fenders for a long time, but noticed EB in 9.5 gauge when looking recently. They also do a version that had got 9.5 on the higher strings and the bottom strings are the same gauges as their 10 gauge.
The 'normal' 9.5...
Not so keen on those to be honest. This video of a real 1957 Junior looks like it has the more gold coloured knobs, also the Custom Shop Juniors have too. Of course, no problem if you want to fit the amber ones to yours, just not my preference. Barely had chance to play it lately though as it...
This.
I just bought a Les Paul Junior with the deeper 50s profile as a contrast to my 60s Tribute Gold Top...they both feel different to play and I find the bridge pick up sounds different on the Junior too: Just been playing them back to back through my Marshall 2525, set clean (ish)...
I made some slight changes; I had some spare Gold Top hat knobs and I ordered some nickel pointers, a 1 ply truss rod cover and a metal jack plate to make it more like the 57 Custom shop model (I'm a sucker for the pointers and top hats anyway).
Haven't fitted the metal plate yet, but I think...
Your Gold Top looks like my 60s Tribute...the Junior is different enough in feel and sound to justify having both...but is an excuse to get rid of a Gretsch that I just haven't bonded with.
It's brand new, though I guess 2019 stock. Standard made in USA, not Custom shop.
Just waiting for the nickel pointers to arrive so I can swap the knobs over. Maybe I'll order an aged switch tip too. ;):D
Last night I played for a while after my wife went to bed. I put it through a little Vox...
I fancied something with a 50s profile neck as a change from my slim taper SG and Epiphone Les Paul which has a very slim neck profile. I also have a 2011 60s Tribute Gold Top Les Paul, so I only went in the shop to try this 'Gibson Les Paul Junior in Tobacco Sunburst' to see if it is different...
I decided yesterday that I'm going to sell my Gretsch Electromatic too: This always seems to happen with guitars I buy online without playing first. I've had it a year and love the looks of it, plus it's my only semi-acoustic, but I just don't enjoy playing it. Annoyingly I've spent money...
I found the pots on my 2019 SG Standard were very flimsy in feel (like they weren't connected) and didn't like the abrupt range. Since I had spare CTS pots anyway, I just took the whole PCB out (and also the pickups, but that's another story) so I can put the guitar back to standard later, just...
Tuner, channel switcher and a clean boost for solos (Using a Marshall 2525H Mini Jubilee and matching 2x12 cab).
I'll swap the channel switcher for an Xotic SL drive if I'm using my Fender '64 Custom Deluxe reverb.
I took out the PCB and original 61T/61R pickups: Then rewired 50s style with metal braided cable, full sized Gibson 500K pots, Switchcraft selector, 0.015uF neck tone cap, 0.022uF bridge tone cap and changed to a pair of DiMarzio 36th Anniversary pickups.
I also changed the plastic parts for a...
