FS: Gibson SG Standard - Black - 2006

I actually sold this one a while back. It was a fantastic guitar, and I ended up replacing it with a black 61 RI. After playing a few of these 61 RIs and standards from varios eras over the years, I have come to prefer the 61 RIs. The pic above is my current one, and I love it!

    Incoming NGD - 2013 50's Tribute SG

(Posted this at mylespaul too). Got my 50's Tribute SG in the mail yesterday. Had just enough time to unpack it - it was in tune out of the box - and plug it in to test it before I had to leave for rehearsal. It is in mint condition, not a single ding, scratch or swirl. Nice chunky neck...

    Incoming NGD - 2013 50's Tribute SG

Hahah, to say the least - they came with the flimsy black gibson gig bags, I guess, but I think the shop had this beat up gibson SG case lying around that they wanted to get rid of, made shipping safe, and so they threw it in there. They say it is fully functional, just sans the tolex! I was...

Opinions on PRS soapbar pick ups?

I am in a P90 guitar collecting phase, apparently. Eyeballing some potential purchases - McCarty Soapbars. Anyone have any experience with these, or other P90-version PRS? I love the sound of the Gibsons I have tried (have and ES-LP and the 2015 Special DC with the different but great sounding...

Tell me all about Les Paul Specials

This is what I did - no regrets. The slug pups sound FANTASTIC. But yes, a little different then regular P90's - just as good though, better for some things. I would saythey have a bit more clarity and scooped sound, but a little less greasy. I like both versions. Quality on the 2015's was...

    Incoming NGD - 2013 50's Tribute SG

Not here yet, but en route from Reverb: $599 total out the door, I don't know if that is a good price or not, but I think they were $899 new in 2013, so I figure it's okay. Not many around to compare too (I couldn't find any actually). I am hoping this satisfy my jones for a light weight...

Gary Clark Jr SG signature question

Yup, decided to wait on this, maybe forever - picked up a different P90 SG for way less $, stay tuned for NGD post :)

Gary Clark Jr SG signature question

That helps a ton, thanks. Sounds like you could set it up quite a few different ways so that when you flip the toggle you could get a variety of different combinations. I guess you could set the neck at a medium volume for rhythm and set the bridge for a loud lead, for one possibiity. Not...

Gary Clark Jr SG signature question

Ahah, very cool, thanks! Anyone use this type of config? How do the volume levels and pickup selections work out in real time? Say you used bridge only then added in middle. Would you get a stratty position 2 type sound (ala SRV)? Would the volume increase as you added the middle in? Would...

Gary Clark Jr SG signature question

I'd kind of like another P90 guitar in the arsenal, and this one intrigues me, as I like the SG form factor (have had many). My question is, how does the three way switch work on this model? The switch on old 3 pick up les pauls is a mess - you can't get the middle pick up by itself, etc.

    Derek Trucks model

Very cool - nice looking SG. Thanks for the links, was fun reading. Well here's what I ended up with, and I must say, I am quite happy. Gotta say, the construction is almost identical to my 2013 standard. The bevels, neck joint, everything but the HS is identical, and even the bigger vs...

    Derek Trucks model

That is very interesting - I think I may have read that at some point, but I had forgotten, if I had. So is his replica neck profile accurate to the 2000/1 original, or was that a tweak he initiated for that model? I think at some point I started assuming, because it is Derek, that he must be...

    Derek Trucks model

I actually have an opinion forming on this. I have been buying and selling SG's for a couple of years, looking for the "right one." Not in an intense way or anything, just sort of casual interest. I have owned two standards and two '61 reissues now. I currently still have a 2013 standard, which...

'61 SG with vs. without baked maple fretboard - does it matter?

@deMelo @Gahr @rotorhead Those are all well phrased and logical points - I find myself in agreement - in the end, it is true, you can get a cheapo with good pickups that sounds great, even better then a super expensive custom guitar. Although I think the overall fit and finish are usually not...

'61 SG with vs. without baked maple fretboard - does it matter?

Well, I don't really know the truth, but it is pretty easy to argue either way - either wood matters not at all or it matters somewhat or a lot. In the "it matters" corner is this: the wave form of the steel string is directly effected by the wood, as well as everything else that contacts it...

'61 SG with vs. without baked maple fretboard - does it matter?

Yup, can't argue with that (not that it'll stop me from trying). I agree, the baked maple should not be considered lesser (although it took me awhile to get there - same with the two-ply's from 2012 - it was a creative way for Gibson to get around import restrictions that was, I believe...

'61 SG with vs. without baked maple fretboard - does it matter?

Ah, the ever present "tone is in the fingers" philosophy :) So, then, when you play a nylon string classical acoustic it sounds the same as and Ibanez shredder guitar through cranked 5150? That is really cool! I guess my fingers are not yet that developed - let me go back and do another 40k...

'61 SG with vs. without baked maple fretboard - does it matter?

I have been eyeballing those specials with the mini hums ever since they came out - I kinda want one, but no room in the collection for the time being. As for the FB, not magnetic, but some will say it can sound subtly (or less subtly) different, and that difference can transmit through the...

    Derek Trucks model

I went with an RI instead - prices were better, and they seem to be nearly the same. Plus there was a black one for the right price, and I kinda like black.
