1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

Ok, thanks again for your time and info. I would agree with the refin, just scrached a bit on the finish of the back with my nails, seems underneath it gets much more purple the more I scratch, (the purple is hard to see in the blacklight pics) to me it looks like it was overpainted (or the...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

We Well, i suppose so too, but in the pic of the custom shop SG above, I bet I would not see any serial even if I saw the thing close up live, I mean there is simply no serial there or its somwhere else on new Custom shop SG‘s. No way its that invisible in the pic. However I agree that a "none...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

As far as I remember, it was plain, thats the reason why I scratched away some paint to see, if there‘s a stamp underneath the paint. As you can see, there is none. Here some more blacklight pics of the headstock. The laquer on the logoside of it glows yellow, so I suppose thats original, the...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

o Ok, thanks! I just searched for vintage SGs whithout visible serial numbers (since mine does‘nt have one) It seems to be not uncommon, the pic you see is a 64 for sale, not declared as a refin, without serial on the back of the headstock, i‘ve seen a few so far that are without serial. I...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

Thanks again for the reply! Yes, I suppose also that its a late small guard. Maybe i‘ll scratch away some of the paint right at the route (lower side) of both PU‘s to check if there‘s a refill, it will be coverd by the small guard anyway so actually not a big deal, to me it‘s a players guitar...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

Yeah, you can see the batwing holes in the pics of my 2nd post here. I filled the holes and polished it, also the more yellow aged finish next to the installed batwing, it left marks of years of being installed. It looked a lot more yellow before, much like the finish around the bridge. It will...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

It‘s hard to tell, I‘m not sure at all about that. Under blacklight it looks different at the bridge area, the guitar came without vibrola when I bought it, and the 3 holes of it were hidden/touched up. I would suppose this area was maybe "refinished" at one point....? I have a poor blacklight...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

Hi and thanks very much for your thoughts. I looked for some routings on 65/66 SG specials, all a bit different but none as sloppy as mine:-) Concerning the soapbar P90‘s on my SG, it probably came originally with a small guard then right? To me they look better with small guards anyways.. Here...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

the batwing in pics fits the p90s perfect. Here are some pics of the routes, proper work is different...:-) But as I said, to me there is no evidence that the routes have been filled for the P90s..

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

thanks very much! thats what I thought. As you can see in the pic, "wavy" is nice said, they actually look like s**t:-) But to me it does not look like they had been filled and/ or refinished. As I remember, inside the PU slots, some work has been done to lower the slots for more space for the...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

here are some pics, the small PG in the pics is not original but the holes lined up perfect. I also put on a 62-65 Replacement PG I bought, it also fits. Thats the batwing that was on the guitar when I got it...

1966 SG, transition area batwing vs small pickguard question

Hi, I got a 1966 SG special (no serial but different neck/ body construction 19 fret) poticodes are late 65. I got it with a batwing pickguard, that I doubt to be original to the guitar. This pickguard contains holes for mounting the p90s to it. Now, the original P90s on that SG are connected...
