With the schallers I will tighten the nut then apply a light coat of clear nail polish to keep it from loosening. However, I typically use Dunlop strap locks. Never had one fail in 20 years.
I've always heard that the 490 and 57 classic were essentially the same pickup with some minor aesthetic/bobbin material or enamel coated wires or some such ****. I've played Gibson guitars for a long time and I have to say the 490 is one of the best neck pickups I've heard that transfers from...
After looking in some daylight the fretboard appears that it in fact may be a very dark rosewood as the grain is more porous than I've seen in the past. Either way it looks fantastic. Anyway, Laters
???
ASAIGAC I'll post pics. It's been played that's for sure and it has the typical multi-piece body of the post 2001-2 models. Someone changed the original "kluson style" tuners for some sweet looking nickel tulip Grovers. DANG, I like this fiddle!!!! It also has EMG's in it but I've got...
Hey guys, been a while. Just traded an ESP LTD Viper-1000 Deluxe (actually a very nice guitar) for a 2005 SG Standard w/ ebony finish and an EBONY fretboard. I've never seen a Standard w/ an ebony FB except on ltd editions, my early 90's SG Special, etc. In fact I had an '06 model that had the...
I'd say the SG is pretty appropriate for most styles unless you're gonna use a Standard w/ hums for super twangy stuff like surf or Tele-style chicken pickin'. I've used P-90 equipped SG's and Les Pauls for these styles though. All in the hands, amps, etc.
Hi guys! unfortunately I will be moving soon and I've got to let this little beauty go. I've posted her on ebay and figured I'd give you all the heads up. Thanks!

Well, then I believe it to be a P-100 then. I pulled it the other day and it appears to be doubled so I'm thinking humbucker also since it doesn't hum at all.
Thanks fellas!!!!
I just snatched up this SG Jr. @ a pawnshop for cheap. It's a gem even though it's finish is a bit roughed up! These must be rare as I haven't found many on the web. It appears to be an early 60's reissue and has those features except for an ABR-1 bridge and regular tailpiece instead of the wrap...
here are some shots. This one of the best sounding SG's I've owned. The 490r is nice and bright with no mud. It has a JB in bridge that I dig much as well. The ebony board contributes to the brightness I'm sure. Very cool guitar but think I'm gonna refin it vintage cream from reranch. Then it'll...
I'll be receiving a 93 Sg Special which appears to have an Ebony board. Is this common for this era? Just curious. Also, do these have multi piece bodies?
