I tend to think the Iommi is very much like Iommi wanted! This is not to say that this tone is the ultimate, and the single tone that everyone needs to have in every guitar on planet earth.
Gibson is blowing smoke, saying the Iommi signature pickup is near as "hot" as they say on their...
A Blues Jr., and a 2x12 should be plenty. I do not like Vintage 30's. To my ears, they sound buzzy, "zippery", and crispy...as if they were made from Pringles potato crisps.
Get the basic tone you want, and double the speakers with a 4x12 if needed.
I pitched the V30's from my Mesa 2x12...
A set-neck Epi for $200...if it floats your boat, go for it!!!
Off topic: I bought this last night for $100, + $1 for three day shipping from M123...just for the hell of it:

Sweet! I am glad you like the Iommi! It is a great pickup.
What I find great about it, is the forward-thrust tone(concentrated/focused/fine tooth). It is also noise free (compared to any other humbucker). Gibson is fudging numbers to say the pickup is as "hot" in its output as say a...
Re: It's crunch time!
I love the Iommi! I have them in my Epi Iommi (with standard/split/parallel switching options).

The most important thing I have to say, is that the Iommi pickup is geared to the higher gain tone of...
Hey Weas...
That is a nice amp! The 150/180 Watt figure I quoted was from some ad-copy featuring John Entwistle (The Who). This is likely a bit of a push on Sunn's part...but all that really means in the big scheme, is that Marshall 100 Watters are only pushing 80 Watts. ;D
My Sunn model T head
150 watts clean, 180 watts distorted, 100% reliability. This amp head was so clean, it was also sold as a bass amp. It sucks for built-in distortion tones (it is too big and clean), but is a great ground-pounding amp that makes the the best your favorite overdrive pedal...
Here is my Iommi that modified with a side jack. The old output jack position hole now has a single toggle switch to allow series/split/parallel pickup operation of the Iommi pickups. It turns out to be a versatile mod...like having the same pickup set with three "close-ratio gears"...
MatrixClaw, I wish you the best in your tone quest! ;) One thing that should be considered is the difference between "solid state watts" and "tube watts". The measurements from musical instrument manufacturers are far more accurate than say, the car audio segment...but most...
I don't find much wrong with regular Ernie Ball Strings. I like 9-46 Hybrid Slinky's for regular E tuning, and 10-52 for D tuning. I don't have acidic finger sweat, so darn near any string will last. I knew this fella that could ruin a set strings within ten days because of his "acid...
Let your ears and wallet decide the preamp tubes you want. There is nothing special about Mesa preamp tubes, and as mentioned above are relabeled Sovteks.
I am on a preamp tube binge (and I'm headed to the poor-house). In the next couple of days, I should be receiving a few more of the...
I bought a Tung-Sol 12AX7 for my Boogie, and it is awesome! It is more "natrualistic" than the 12AX7EH in the upper ranges...I am going to order some more tonight! The 12AX7EH is good, but it also has more "presence"/thrust in the treble range. This may actually be desired...
Yes indeed! The genuine Gibson article is the real deal, and sounds so too! I take absolutely no offence to the statement that Gibson SG's are the real SG's!
I have two Epi's, and one Gibby...and I have been playing the guitfiddle so long, my used Gibson with a case costed less than a super...
