It looks almost unplayed - I thought the day of finding a vintage guitar under Granny's bed were over.

Yes, it really looks someone has played it last time on 1961 and only few times.

The seller stated in a reply to a question it was only played a few times. so it probably means one of 2 things

    1. it was likely owned by a collector,

    2. its not a particularly great guitar.

well that sure looks minty to me. I'd love to get to sit down for an hour or two with that one!!! Course that kind of cash will likely mean it goes to another collector and not a player. Sad when you think about it... that guitar deserves to be played and not just locked away.

Agreed, Matt. Can't stand to think of it being locked in a dark vault and only taken out when some rich idiot wants to brag...

I used to have a 1964 Gibson SG standard with the Lyre tailpiece. It was a nice guitar, but like most from the era, had neck/body issues. I know I'm going to get blasted for saying this...but the reissues I've played seem to be nicer than the original I once owned.

    (don't hurt me fellas....)

Thing is swee-eet! Can't wait to see what it fetches! I paid $1,500 for mine! And it's brand new, 2013 issue! None of this old musty stuff! Haha I kid. Apples and oranges, no? I can play mine without being paranoid about dropping it or something. This is a beauty though. This might be the last one of these ever pulled out from underneath granny's bed.

Rats! Auction ended early! Last I saw it was in the upper $9k's. And I was just coming along to propose a "guitar share" and see who wanted in! :laugh2: Oh well.

Is it OK to end the bidding like that on ebay? It is like just getting the price correct for some other purpose :hmm:

I don't sell stuff on eBay, but I believe the seller has the right to end the auction early, iirc. But, it seems like general courtesy to state such a position in the auction, as I have seen in the past. Definitely not the first time I have seen an auction end early.

Well, at least we know that the last bid was about 9,5k and that is currently about maximum an SG may cost..
