Ive searched a bunch of threads and seen a few on these guitars but just wanted to ask you guys since this is THE SG site. Im told that the early 65's with the nickel hardware have the 64 specs. The patent # pickups, 11/16 necks, etc. Does anybody own one of these and want to give me a rundown of what they think of them, compared to the 65 and up? Thanks alot guys!
The early 1965 models basically have 1964 specs, yes. Then you see "transitional" models where some parts may be nickel, others chrome. And the nut width is narrowed down to 9/16" The pickups may or may not be the same, the difference being that the T-tops appeared some time mid/late 1965. I have a '65 whit the pre T-Top pickups and the 9/16" nut. I'm not picky with neck shapes, and like it a lot.
What do you guys think about this trade, a 62 SG Special with a headstock repair, 06 Les Paul Custom, and $1000 for a 64/65 with patent numbered pick ups, 11/16 neck? Im really up in the air on it. The SG is in players grade condtion.
Do you like humbucker equipped SGs more than LPs? Do you like hb equipped SGs more than your Special?
