Hey all! I have a 66 sg junior in white with binding. I’m wondering if this guitar was refinished at some point because the binding is oversprayed or is that something Gibson did? thank you! Fredrik
Yes that is a a repaint. It also started its life with fret nibs, which have been removed simply by filing rather than a refret - at least that is how it looks. It could use sanding back to bare wood and treated properly with grain filler before you paint it again. Unless you just want to play it - in which case it is perfect.
Juniors typically have unbound necks. Always thought it was odd that some have bound necks. Maybe depends if it was special ordered that way?
Here's another '66 that appears to be exactly like yours, Fredrik. Painted binding and everything... https://www.vintageandrare.com/prod...66-Polaris-White-69276#prettyPhoto[pp_gal]/8/
Yes, it's been noted before. One example is from @PermissionToLand He made an excellent sg junior wiki... https://solidguitar.fandom.com/wiki/SG_Junior
I was unaware of Batwing Jrs with a bound neck before, but a little Googling has turned up others. I'll add this to the wiki right now. Does it have the original pots? I'd be curious to see the date on them. If you don't mind @Fredrik Kihlberg, I'd like to use your picture in the wiki.
