I just purchases a 2019 SG Standard and when I took it out of the gig bag and it almost felt like a toy. I weighed it and it is 6.4 lbs.
Its definitely the lightest guitar I ever owned. Just wondering is that about right for the newer SG's?
Thanks
Mike

Welcome to the forum. Our motto is "pictures or it didn't happen! :naughty:
That's at the light end of the curve, but not unheard of. average would be about 7.2 lbs. Why don't you check-n at The Welcome Wagon and introduce yourself? We have a wealth of knowledge and Col.Mustard's wisdom to boot.

I own two SGs, one of them weighs 6 3/4 pounds and the other weighs just about 7 pounds even.

Yours seems lighter than normal, but not out of the
park. Treasure it. SGs are lighter because they are thinner in the body than Les Pauls and SGs lack the maple cap (in most cases). Different weights are caused by different logs
of Mahogany, some are more dense, some less.

A lighter SG might be more susceptible to neck dive... mine both balance just fine, but 6 1/4 lb is considerable...
especially if you play a long gig.

My SG is 6.4 lbs too... and it has a Maestro! The heaviest SG I've ever owned came at 7.7.

And if you think that a 6.4 lbs SG feels like a toy, I wish you could play my '65 Melody Maker. It's 5.2lbs! Every other guitar in the universe feels like a boat anchor next to it.

My black Faded SG is really heavy... I've not weighed it "officially," but it's gotta be pushing 8 pounds, easy. Compare that to a red Faded I sold, which weighed in at 5.55 lbs.

In general & all other things being equal, I prefer a light SG. The (usually lighter) weight is just one of MANY reasons I love SGs in general!

I'm with Brazil nut... I love my SG, but oh you kid...
Seven pounds of gold (3.2 Kilos)
will buy a fine collection of guitars, amps and f/x... as well as a nice van to haul them to the gig in, and some decent clothes to perform in, with a little change left over in case you get lonely.

I just checked, and the price of gold these days is about $44,800 per Kilo...
A Kilogram=2.2 pounds merkan... so that ain't hay...

Like I said. I'll take the gold.

i have 2017 and 2019
and yes the 2019 definitely feels lighter
i think the thick neck gives an easier grab than the 2017 slim neck so it feels lighter
but also it's definitely lighter in weight, i feel it every time

My current SG is 7.3 pounds, and that works great for an SG because it eliminates any neck dive problems. Anything in the 6-6 1/2 pound range "usually" has bad neck dive problems....just saying....I like light SG's too.

IMG_20190502_205032_hdr.jpg IMG_20190502_204905_hdr.jpg Welcome to the SG Forum and Happy Independence Day. Everyone else on this thread is correct, the SG generally is a light weight guitar, much easier on the back than a Les Paul! And yes we need some pics!
