Hi, new to this forum. Just this week I bought a 2006 SG Classic and am really loving it.
Got lucky and found one in mint condition. This is my second SG, my first one is a somewhat foggy memory. I bough the first one used for maybe $300-400 in 1987 but don't remember much about it. It was Walnut and didn't have the Batwing pickguard. I am pretty sure it had a slimmer neck profile as well. Could have been a " The SG" but not sure. It had some tuning issues so I only had it a year or so. I was young and didn't know much about guitars or playing so I can't really say why it had issues staying in tune. Nonetheless I kinda swore off SG's and went on to other models. I recently got the itch for P90's and was looking for a LP w/P90's, but a friend with more experience with SG's gave me some knowledge and based on that I decided to consider SG's again. Really thankful for the advice and that I reconsidered. Mine is fantastic and the P90's do something special. The chunkier neck feels great, and maybe it's just poor memory but the body on my Classic feels a bit thicker than that unknown SG I had "back in the day" I got it with old strings on it and have simply been playing it and it is much better at holding tune than my old one - even with old strings. ( String change coming ASAP) I am not a chronic tinkerer, but have changed pickups, and other parts on my other guitars selectively, but plan on just playing this one for a while. Thanks !!
