I found this link while searching the "rough" value of 1958/1959 LP's these days, out of curiosity. I found this:

1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom 58 Celebrity owned & Used Rock History RARE! | eBay

So who was the celebrity who used this on historical albums? And why is said celebrity not mentioned in the auction? Regardless, it looks like a few offers have been made. Maybe I'll make an offer for $3,500...I don't car who owned it prior. (Can't seem to find the chuckle emoticon to insert here...)

Bid away. You will have no competition from me.

PS: Your location of Castle Greyskull sounds way more interesting than NE Illinois.

Castle Greyskull is located in a small town an estimated 7 hours away from NE IL, on Lake Superior. From my northernmost turret I can see the great wooden dome of the educational facility known as Northern Michigan University. I plan and plot all sorts of nefarious shenanigans from here, but usually just play music.

    1- Who owned it?
    2- Why would I care?
3- "used rock history" +_+ What exactly is "used rock History"?
4- If I was interested in Les Pauls I would be over in the boat anchor forums.

Ahhh...I recall allusions by the LP guys in the Mary Ford SG thread over on the Les Paul site about a PF LP guitar...perhaps this guitar is one and the same.

It's not the one he recently got back from stolen.

I was thinking now that he got his original one back, maybe he is selling off the one he used for all those years? Just pure speculation on my part and I can't imagine him selling it without documenting the authenticity so more likely just someone trying to fool a buyer into overpaying for something.

No, it's not Frampton's. The Custom Shop made him (and introduced the Frampton Sig.) right after his went missing. If you recall, his didn't have pup covers, cream P/U rings and Gold knobs.

I missed the part about Frampton having a guitar stolen. On that note, I don't understand the logic behind stealing a "known" artist's guitar. Say you steal one from backstage, like one of Iommi's SG's was. What's the point (besides playing it and keeping it for yourself)? You can't tell anyone about it, not even your kid. Sure, you could simply pawn it as a nicely setup guitar. But it wouldn't take long for the truth to emerge as soon as you started bragging up what ya really got. I guess there's a lot of deviant arguments to my logic though, and people with money and tight lips. Sooner or later, though...

Then again, didn't George Harrison buy back a guitar of his that wound up in Mexico or something? Running off topic here, but it is a thread I started... :)

I agree. You can't steal something that well known and recognizeable and hope to sell it without getting cought. There was a time when the Star of India sapphire was stolen from the Museum of Natural History in NYC. The theft was accomplished by a Mission Impossible style break in during the wee hours of the morning and the thief (thieves?) got away clean. The gem was anonymously returned a couple of weeks later. Peter's guitar is almost as recognizeable as the Fool SG or Brian May's red special. All you could do with it if you got your hands on it would be to keep quiet about it or maybe play it in a biker bar once in a while (Yeah, riiiiiight).

Frampton's wasn't stolen, his cargo plane went down on it's way to South America, he lost everything.

Yeah, and FWIW Frampton lives in Cincinnati these days. No idea how he wound up there. That's where I'm from, and I can't see the attraction for a guy like him, but whatever.

Funny story... 8 years or so ago I went to a CD shop and purchased Frampton Comes Alive...I guess the #1 selling live album of all time. Anyway, this cute gal was ringing me up, and she casually said, punching in the purchase, not even making eye contact, "Couldn't avoid it any longer, could you?" I didn't even know her, and she was younger, which only made it funnier. Maybe you had to be there... :)

If I recall this was also listed over at mylespaul.com a while back. Seems like the seller didn't sell it the first time around so he's trying again !
