Hey everyone, I'm new here...I recently purchased one of the last ebony Epiphone Elitist 1961 SG Standards from MF. I was trying to decide between the Gibson Faded Special or the one I bought. I think I made the right choice, I've heard many great things about the Epi Elitist, and I've heard quite a few bad things about the Faded. But anyways I thought I would ask you guys if I made the right choice, because I have 45 days to change my mind...

WELCOME TO ETSG ELITE PLAYA !!!!!! From what I have heard from other members who have both (ie Gotdabluz) in terms of looks, playablilty and general quality the Elitists are superior. Hopefully 'bluz will drop by to offer his input.

I have both . . . I like both
. . . the Gibson faded is a fine guitar, but in terms of looks and consistancy and level of build quality I feel the Elitist is definitely superior

If that Gibson headstock and logo is a hangup for ya, then there is not much I can say or do to change your mind
. . . but if you want a really well built SG that sounds great and costs less you cant go wrong with an Elitist
. . . I prefer the thinner finish of the Epi Elitist fadeds, the thicker high-gloss poly adds substantial weight
but either one is really a nice instrument . . . especially considering the price that MF has been offering them at

I'm pairing my entire collection down to just one guitar for now, and well . . . it will be a Gibson . . . tho it will not be a faded
. . . but if I could keep just one more it would definitely be an Elitist

Thanx for the welcomes, guys. I do believe I'll just stick with the Elitist, it seems like a much better deal. I'm not one to pay for the name on the headstock, or the open book headstock, I just want nice looks and excellent playability. I've had a little trouble finding the right guitar. I started out with a crappy starter kit, then decided to move up and got an Epi LP Studio, which I loved at first, but as my abilities progressed I wanted something better, so I decided to buy a Gibson LP double cut special, and I hated it, so I returned it and got my LP studio back. I played an SG in the shop, and fell in love with it, so I had to get one. I almost bought the G400 deluxe, but decided not to in the interest of something a little better, and I'm glad my SG is supposed to arrive tomarrow. Thanx for the help (and sorry the "Guitar Life Story" was so boring, haha)

-ALSO I'm not rich, and I bought my guitars with my own money, and being 15 I had to bust my butt to get them (just didnt wanna sound like I was bragging in any way whatsoever) and this was over a quite large time period. Anyways thanks again-

I will have to attest... the elitist is excellent... I would say the best lower priced SG you can buy.. trust me.. I have owned the Epi Vintage Faded, Gibson SG Faded but this one really stands out on its on. I think you have made a very wise choice...

I'm almost afraid to touch it...haha

That's how I felt about my boys right after they were born. I didn't hold them for a day and a half for fear of breaking them! :)

It plays very well, but im having a bit of trouble right now with the action and intonation. Certain frets buzz, certain ones dont, so im gonna have it professionally set-up. I'm tryin to get hold of another digital camera right now, cant find my other one, haha.
