I've played it for a while and I really like the sound, it has '57 Classic pickups in it, but it's a matte/satin finish, not a glossy one like i've see on other reissues. It also says made in USA 2012 on the back of the headstock, and I thought it was weird because i've never seen the year stamped on the back. It also says the same thing on the bottoms of the pickups. Just looking for any information about it and if it is a reissue or not. Also, I paid about 700 and it came with the hard shell case and the truss rod adjuster and all that. Not sure if I overpaid or not. Thanks for the help. P.S, I know the plastic piece between the neck pickup and the fingerboard is after market, I have the original piece.

I don’t know if the specs are still available somewhere on the Gibson website, but found this:

Judging from past sales on Reverb, sounds like you got a good deal! :thumb:

@skelt101 Thanks for the help. I've done research in the past but I never knew what to type in and I never found that website.

They started stamping the year and the word “MODEL” circa 2008-09.

Plastic piece between the neck and pickup is the Tenon Cover.

It's funny that they call these '61 reissues and then use finishes that weren't used in '61, but the main thing is that the build specs approximate a '61 and that is, IMO, the best of ll the SGs. I'm lucky to have an '87 Reissue '61 Les Paul/SG Custom (3 pickups) and that was the year after Norlin solf off and Gibson was really trying to re-establish itself. Mine has the Shaw humbuckers and is in every way just wonderful. Welcome to the '61 club! Black SGs look great.

If you got THAT guitar for that price, I believe you did very well.
Especially if you have played it a lot and have gotten good service.
