Hi Guys, This is my first post. I am an original owner of either a 65 or 66 Pelham Blue Gibson SG purchase when I was around 16 or 17. It has the small pickguard, narrow neck, tremelo maestro vibrato, white nylon saddle on the bridge, all chrome pickups, etc. I believe it's a 65, but am not sure. I have all the tickets and tags that came with the guitar new with the original hard case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please forgive any errors with either spelling or the proper lingo as I am not a guitar expert. I did play this guitar in my early days in a band.

Big guard was introduced in 66 I think? Whats the serial number/pot codes?

Sounds like you have one hell of a guitar either way BocaTrip. Welcome to here! :)

Pics would be nice.

Gibson Serial Numbers, Feb 1961 to 1970.

All models, stamped in back top of peghead. No "MADE IN USA" stamp below serial number! Note many serial numbers are duplicated from 1963-1969. In these cases, to figure out which is the exact year for a guitar, see the General Specs section for more details. ALSO note: It is easy to confuse 5 digit and 6 digit serial numbers from this era, and hence get the wrong year for a guitar. That is, 55555 is not the same number as 555555 (but when reading the number off the back of a Gibson peghead, these two numbers do look very similar!)

One pot ends with 65. The entire number is AT-13765. There are other numbers on the pots but I don't believe they matter. Does that help? Why can't I find my serial number on the list?

Its a 65 then probably.

The nearest number is "555000 to 557999 1966" on the list. Considering yours is less at 552583, wouldnt that put it in 65 sometime?

It is near those numbers but it is not within the range. I just don't understand why my serial number is not on the list. I know it is a custom color, should that matter?

I know they do now, but I don't know if there was a Custom Shop back then.

Welcome Bocatrip! :)
Those last two numbers on the pot codes tell the week that the pots were manufactured. It could be a late-year '65.
The records kept at that time were not great and leave much to be desired. I would call it a '65 without having a problem.
It sure would be nice to see a pic of your beautiful SG! (hint, hint ;))

A useful site is Photobucket dot com. make a free account there and post the IMG tag url, (the bottom one under your uploaded pic there) into the reply here.

There are a few free image storage sites around, but I have never had a problem with Photobucket, I also know a lot of folk here use it too.
