Currently have an Orange crush 20 amp for practice. How much, if any, is the Peavy 6050 mini half stack better/upgrade? I'm a guitar noob as I've only been learning playing for two years. I can pick up a nearly new Peavy for 400.00 bucks.

Every amp will be "perfect" for somebody, so the big question is always "How does a particular amp serve you"? My recommendation would be to try any amp before you buy it. The Orange amps have a great reputation with a lot of folks, but I have never used one yet myself so I can't speak to their strengths and weaknesses. The number of good things I have heard about them leads me to believe I would be able to find a lot to do with one.

My experience with Peavy tends to be that they make very flexible amps that can cover a lot of ground stylistically. If you are looking for one very specific sound, you can probably find better, but if you want to be ready for anything, Peavy will get you pretty darn close most of the time.

Since you are just starting out, I wouldn't get too hung up on the minutia of which piece of gear is best and just learn to use what you have. If you find something you like by all means grab it if you can afford the price tag, but if you are like me when I was starting out you probably don't know where you are going to end up, so I would just grab something if I was interested in trying it out after a test drive. You can always sell stuff later, but options are probably the main thing I would be looking for at the start. Anything that inspires you to play and practice more is a good thing at this point.

Congratulations on taking up an amazing new hobby. I hope you enjoy it and it brings you many years of pleasure.

The 6505 MH is a 20-watt tube amp.
The 6505 Piranha is crap.
Your price is average for the amp. The cabinet makes it a good deal. What cab is included? Make sure you have a speaker cable between head and speaker, not an instrument cable.
Have you played it yet?
You could probably find a Tiny Terror, AC-15 or a 90’s Classic 30 combo in the same range.
Depends on your style. I’m guessing the 6505 is more modern sounding.

Comes with the Peavy 1x12 cab, foot switch, all cables. Only reason it caught my attention is it looks like it retails for 1100ish new. Guy says it’s immaculate and less than 6 months old. I’m a 80s rock guy but honestly everything sounds good to me in this stage of learning.

You'd be better off experimenting with speakers/cabs.

those two amps are going to have the same weaknesses. just slightly different flavors of gain.

Here's the simple answer: take your guitar and play thru it. only YOU can determine if it's right for you. I personally hate Peavey amps, but your mileage might vary.

Peavey makes some really good stuff. Expeshailly the pre-2015 or so stuff before they moved manufacturing overseas. That said though make sure to try before you buy, because there are some dogs out there too.

The 6505 MH is a fun little amp. I run mine into a 1x12 Friedman cab just for home jamming by myself. Decent clean channel and clean headroom. Channel 1 also breaks up nicely with the crunch switch. Channel 2 can get as hairy as you'd like. Pretty good on board reverb. Also offers built in power attenuation, 20w 10w 1w. I can't really think of any complaints with this one.... Overall just a fun amp especially if you want to play with some gain.
