Does anyone know how or who does mods on delays or can it be done? lemme explain, I got a DOD FX90 which sounds great but i need the delay to be slowed down a little more than what its set at. Can it done with a chip change?
I owned FX-90 years ago.. if I remember correctly there are two trimmers in the circuit board. By adjusting another one (can't remember which one..) you are able to slow down the delay a bit...please mark the original trimmer positions or you will get lost....and hopefully I remember it ok... :)
OMG,,,Your kidding me right? :o I just did a BIN on ebay and brought a digital delay pedal that CB suggested because he knew it had trimmer pots to adjust the delay. You mean to tell me mine has it also ? I looked and i didn't see anything. But than again, i only opened up the cover,i didn't actually pull the board out of the housing !
As I said most likely you can adjust the delay "a bit" ..not too much anyway. Weird if there is no trimmers If I recall correctly there is a mn3005 BBD chip and the clock chip is mn3101. 10Khz clock gives 220ms delay or something like that and the main delay pot is directly changing that frequency. BUT as I said earlier..in my mind there should be a trimmer pot for "pre set". It can't give you much more delay because mn3005 can give max 300ms usable delay.I did study the circuit but it was 1990 or something like that so can't remember exactly/enough. And changing the max delay you will get a bit different tone also...or you may ruin the tone :) Good luck anyway!
Well as silly as this may sound , i'm trying to get this to delay a little over a 1/2 a second or the be more percise 680 miliseconds ;D
I tried looking up information of this pedal to see what the factory settings are as far as delay is concerned. I recall seeing something about a "1 to 3 second delay" , but i can't remember if it was the FX90 that i was reading about
Right, I messed with the delay trimmer ( trimmer is closer to the delay pot) and managed to get it to where i want it but alas just as you perdicted it did suffer a little in sound quality,,the delayed sound did get a little fuzzy and distorted so i'm gonna put it back to its factory setting
( Yes i did mark the pot before i turned it in the counter clockwise direction ) and i'll wait until my Ibanez DL5 arrives. I picked it up off of ebay last night for 40 bucks, i'll mess with that one being its a Digital Delay. Maybe i'll have better luck with that one. Progress report will follow
yeap..there is no way to get a combination of a good sound and over 300ms delay with fx-90 . With digital delay you will get easily up to 2sec delay without any kind of modification. Anyway..in my mind the sound of a analog delay is warmer...but that's just a matter of taste. I like my Ibanez AD-9 but have to admit that sometimes the max delay is not sufficient...
But, Bruce, you have both: the analog and digital...so no problems at all... :)
This knob gives you a range of spacings for your echoes from 53 milliseconds
(close together) through 2.2 seconds (way far apart). You can use Tap Tempo
to reach Echo Park’s maximum time of 2.5 seconds
