Lets see some Explorers. I have always kind of wanted one. Back when I was younger playing in punk rock bands it would have been sacrilege to be in stage with a "metal" guitar but I've always wanted one even then. Just never had the chance or the cash to get one.
A few years ago I was at the local Guitar Center I played one of the Traditional Pro models with the neck and body binding and slightly scaled down size. I didn't realize it was a limited run GC only model. It played great and fit me really well. the action was already set up nice and low and I seriously considered buying it but I was searching for a Les Paul and ended up leaving with a nice LP Classic but I never really bonded with it and sold it 6 months later. Still kicking myself for not getting that Explorer when I had the chance. I've been on the lookout for one ever since. They don't seem to keep many Explorers in stock anywhere for me to try the standard versions but next time I find one that fits me I think I will go for it.

I'm kind of partial to the ones with the neck binding but not a deal breaker if it doesn't. Would be cool to get an ebony board too if possible but not necessary.

I suppose not too many people are truly DIY, no herd mentality folks. Never mind. Many assure you that SG's and Teles are not "hard rock and metal guitars". Well, they're wrong, because both are very versatile. Who really cares about looks?.

Back in the day, if you looked down your nose at the wrong person you'd get it broken.

That's the way. Get an Explorer if you want, and use it to play Country. There are no rules.

2006 Explorer that was my main guitar for 6 years until it developed a truss rod issue.
It was sent back to factory under lifetime warranty, scrapped and new one sent in return.
Could not bond with the new one and sold it.

I am playing a modified 2006 Epiphone '58 Korina Explorer in my avatar photo. I will try to get a clearer photo of it later in its current form and post that. Mods are gold hardware completely changed over to chrome (Grover auto-locking tuners and Tone Pros locking bridge and tailpiece set), mirror finish aluminium diamond plate pickguard, Bare Knuckle Nailbomb pickup set, CTS 550K volume pots with a 470K resistor and 0.022uf PIO capacitor on the neck volume pot, Switchcraft selector switch in the neck volume pot position with the tone control deleted, Switchcraft output jack, custom harness made from MilSpec shielded wire, fully shielded pickup, pickguard, and control cavities, 2-way toggle in the pickguard to switch the neck pickup from series to parallel wiring, DiMarzio ClipLock strap system, D'Addario EXL117 string set tuned to C standard. The nut had been changed before I bought it but it seems to have been made from some kind of TUSQ blank.

EDIT: Here's a photo I took a few minutes ago. That's the new double LP 30th anniversary reissue of Sodom's Obsessed By Cruelty next to it.

Have had my sights on a 2014 ‘58 Explorer for the Custom Shop for a while now. Maybe in 2 or 3 years the shop might drop their prices to something more reasonable...
