I ran across this photo of The Dickies (L.A. punk band dating back to the '70's). This photo is late '70's/early '80's. I've never seen a split inlay SG like this before. Anyone know what year and model it is?

    Definitely not a stock model.
Headstock looks strange...Gibson logo really close to the top....and what's the crown? Inlay? Flowerpot?

If it's a Gibson it Could be a replaced neck, or fingerboard or Custom inlays.

Also possible that it's an import copy with a logo added ?

Given how deep the neck is into the body, I suspect it's a bolt-on neck. Which means the neck could have come from one guitar, and the body another.

The split rhomboids neck inlays are often seen on Hummingbirds, so it's a mish-mash of Gibson-esque appointments.

The scratchplate looks huge and like an import.

I wonder if the blob under the Gibson logo is an attempt to look like the Gibson Pegasus logo?

Says it's an SG Melody Maker, didn't they come out much later in the 60's?

    "Spidey"

Note the marking under the headstock logo.
The article from link posted earlier explains it is a 'Swee'Pea" decal.
The inlays were changed from dots to parallelograms, pickups changed to PAF type and later refinish to yellow with Spiderman painted on body.

No doubt it is a Melody Maker because of the headstock shape, but the part about it being a 1961 might be a typo. A quick search online indicates the SG Melody Maker did not happen until 1966.
