I've always tried to keep up with SRV info, but recently i saw someone post (on another board) that he used 2 tubescreamers. IYO was this just redundancy in case one failed?:::.S

Well.... I've played with two distortion devices in series. Which by the way, if either failed you're uscwap.

The idea for me at least, was to get the varying texturs of the devices mixed in a subtle way. You have to sorta see what stuff sounds ok together for the tone you're after. I think something like two tubescreamers set differently (different tones) might be ok. I've been playing with my old MXR Distortion+ and home-made BluesBreaker together. The BB can do a nice bassy grind if you want, while the D+ is more trebly. I may try to run them in parallel and see how that works out too. Another SG Schematic (my thanks to Lagger)

I see, Charlie B. that makes sense. I'm an old Navy guy and we always had to have 2 of anything that could break! Ha!, thought that might have been his reasoning...

BTW....how do i get into the hottub?:::.S

If you had 2 in series, and for some reason one didn't function, could you theoretically switch to the other mid solo? provided of course you could think fast enough not to drop the ball...I've never had one go out, nor had 2 of the same in one chain, nor can i afford to buy another just to answer a gnawing question. i've heard from several other sources about SRV using 1 TS, but not 2.:::.S

I'd guess they were both set at different settings and only used 1 at a time. I have an MXR Zakk Wylde overdrive and a Zoom Power Drive on my pedalboard. I've tried them both at the same time, but it was too noisy. But if you have them set at different amounts of gain, or at different volumes for boosting a solo, they work great.me+my basic setup

Thanks! I wish I had found this site a long time ago! That's my (very ugly) souped up SG into a Crybaby 95Q switchless wah, into the Zakk Wylde overdrive, into the Zoom Powerdrive into a Marshall JCM800 2205 50 watt. That goes into a Crate speaker cab that I found used for $175 and outperformed several other new cabs the store had, including a Sammy Hagar cab w/ Vintage 30's. This set up sounds great! I also own a Boss Ns2 noise suppressor and PN2 tremolo/pan, Danelectro univibe and octave, and a V amp2. Here's a couple of pics of all my junk taken at my old apartment. recording set upeffects

Uscwap - up s**t creet without a paddle

And yes you can bypast one or either. What I was referring to was while playing... one dies, they both die. Another SG Schematic (my thanks to Lagger)

Hmmmm. okay, lets say i HAVE to have that sound of 1 tubescreamer, and to be sure i do i hook up 2, leave one bypassed. if the one i'm using goes out, can i click it off to bypass it, then stomp the other and be good as new?

i know this is kinda anal, i mean who really cares if for half a song one box is out til you can switch between songs....except someone like SRV who was somewhat anal when it came to his sound.

i know i'm a real clodhopper sometimes CB, but i guess i'm just your cross to bear with! hehe and THANKS for your patience...:::.S

If you were referring to my Boss Tremolo/Pan, then I highly recommend it! It's a great pedal when playing in stereo. They don't make them anymore. Although Line6 in releasing something similar this week in their Tonecore line. Can't wait to check those out! By the way, I apologize to Skidshark for taking his post so off-topic. I'll try not to do that in the future now that I've introduced myself!

Yes, you can use one, and bypass the other, and if one fails stomp both and go right on playing.

Personally, I'm beginning to like multiple parallel effects, especially with something like a little delay or echo kept completely clean, and then some more echo/reverb on the distorted signal. You get that big hall and "after ring" sort of thing going. Another SG Schematic (my thanks to Lagger)

Thanks CB, as always you're right on and then some.

SGM3, no blemo man, actually this post is closer to on subject than most after 20 or so posts! (but sometimes the most interesting thing is the tangents a subject can lead to!!):::.S

I'm the guy who uses two Tube Screamers. I set one for my SG and the other for my Stratocaster's, that way when I swap guitars between songs, I don't have to reset anything, just stomp the appropriate TS. Also in case of failure, you do have a backup. I also carry a Guyatone OD2 along for a spare (spare), hahahahha. I carry spares of everything I can think of that might cause me problems at a gig, and it has saved my ass on numerous occasions!

Thank you SG, you present the most viable scenario imo!

SRV did use some guitars, like "lenny" for one particular song.

i didn't even see that coming! SPLAMBphfoOM!!

Skidshark, If you were referring to my Boss Tremolo/Pan, then I highly recommend it! It's a great pedal when playing in stereo. Makes the sound dance from left to right! You can't see it in the picture, but I usually have it between my V-Amp2 and my 4 track to give it a little life. They don't make them anymore. Although Line6 in releasing something similar this week in their Tonecore line. Can't wait to check those out!

I've just picked up this Ibanez PDS1 Distortion unit that has 2 TS808 4558 chips in it. Also 9 separate sounds are programmable.......$50
All analog sounds too!

asAfAada

Does this count as a Double pedal too? Sounds all right, it's a lotta fun!

No Keith, just 9 different distortions that you program in. You know, change EQ,Drive, Tone, Attack and the like. That's the fun part and only $50 for a good sounding pedal.....
