As requested by Smitty and eSG!

I dabble in the visual arts as well as music. I'm one of those people who goes a little bit crazy without being soothed by paints and colours and extremely expensive paper. I have spent most of my time experimenting and have only just began to settle on what medium and style I like the best. I'm mostly keen on sketches and small watercolours, with some abstracts painting in oils here and there. Here are some of my pieces:

    Watercolour:

The quote on the last one is one of Picasso's. I also do digital art, but thought I'd keep this thread on traditional methods.

Any other artists out there? The creative arts often cross over :hmm:

Ooh I have one! It's my moms, she drew it about 20 years ago, my brother hangs it in his room.

I really like your colours. Do you sell them?

Mine are more literal - here's a couple. The first is a pen sketch I did years ago back home in the Faroe Islands. The second is some practice at drawing glass.

This is by my grandmother. It is chalk on canvas.

Sorry for the glare to the right. I took a picture of it while framed. As the piece is probably around 80 years old and professionally framed, I didn't want to attempt to remove it.

Awesome. It's really refreshing to see these. I'm used to the movie posters and cheesy "velvet paintings" we have on our walls.
    Thank You for sharing.

Me either Tony, I have zero talent.....well unless a spastic and unrelenting ability to annoy people is considered a talent?????? If so I could be a medalist in the A-hole Olympics!!! Or is that mentalist.........oh never mind,,,,,, ;)

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I do love colour and impressionist or abstract scenes. Also Don, beautiful drawings! I don't sell my work because I'm not really very well practiced and as I still count myself as a novice (like a guitarist who only played a occasionally since they were a kid) and I've never thought about it. Perhaps I should.

Nice thread, Hecket, and nice watercolors. Do you ever do self-portraits? I'm thinking of you and your Faded, and recalling your description of trying out a new amp and getting lost in the moment, and wishing there was a picture of it.

I went to art school on an utterly fraudulent basis, so I can only share the work of others.

Here's one from my late Aunt. She was a "WPA artist" during the 1930s, in New York:

I have done a couple of self-portraits but none I'd be willing to show here. You remember that, eh? That was me describing my Iommi amp I got a few months ago, and I still get that feeling when I play it! I'm not sure how I'd make something like that into a painting though, I'd feel a bit of a twit posing for a reference photograph like that!

How does one fraudulently go to art school? :hmm:

Another one for colour addicts, an abstract landscape:

All you artistic folks amaze me. Had a grandmother and great grandmother (my mom's side of the family) that both were wonderful artists in pastels, oils, pen and ink, you name it. Did I get any of that talent? Nope! The only ability to draw for me is things that fly.

I can go out into a field. Lie down on the ground and remain perfectly still for a few minutes. Then before you know it I've drawn buzzards and flys like crazy! I'm all old and wrinkled up so if I sit still long enough I look like a corpse so they just gotta come check me out:laugh2:

I can understand that, about the reference photo. It would be awkward, especially if you were sporting guitar face.

"How does one fraudulently go to art school?"

    By studying literature, and drinking.

I went to the Ft. Lauderdale Art Institute but the timing was wrong.....It WAS Ft. LAuderdale....South Florida.....for an Ohio boy that was too much fun sun and Bikinis.......lasted a semester......besides when I am "in the mood" I can draw and paint and create like a pro.......I wanted to be a commercial artist, however "creative on demand--or a schedule ---just wasn't "me" and still isn't ...I am seldom in THAT mood anymore......the sit and paint mood.....I do know color and art and design and I do use it in practice daily in my work. However now days I come up with the design and I have coworker/artists who do the work. :)

Wow, some really nice work there and a lot of talent.

Anita, I love the colour in your work. I would dearly like to have a tattoo done in that watercolour style...

Well I'm a digital artist. Instead of chalk or oil, I paint with electrons. My canvas is an LCD monitor and I use a mouse for my brush. Yes indeed I am a pixel manipulator. I do this for a day job, I do this for my extra income at home and yes, I also do this as a hobby. Here is sumthin' I whipped up last night as a sample guitar that I wish to have built for me by another wood carving artist named ESB_Customs
