In the $50 range, I like the digitec bad monkey. They may not measure up to the boutique distortion pedals but for the price, they are worth a look.

I have a Digitech Bad Monkey and a Boss OS2 overdrive/distortion pedals. They both sound really good when my kid plays thru them. I personally sound better playing clean or cranking the guitar and amp and getting my od that way. More practice needed?

I'm still searching for a dist pedal I really love, but my favorite one that I own is the DS-1. Just blends so well with my guitar and amp tones. I have no doubt that when i buy a new amp I'll decide its **** though lol

Update on the Bad Monkey. I finally got it figured out. Sounds pretty good now. Like ORF said, it isn't a boutique pedal or even a stock Tube Screamer, but it didn't cost 150 to 300 bucks either.

I like the DAM Sonic Titan. Does low gain crunch all the way up to amps-turned-up-to-11 distortion.
As far as fuzz goes, I have a weakness for old garagey fuzz -- the Maestro FZ-1 and Fuzzrite come to mind. But the MkI Tone Bender rules them all.
Nothing wrong with a big box or a white face Rat though.

Best Distortion pedal (or OD pedal, for that case) is the OCD... OCD + SG = AC/DC sound all over the thing!...

But, I'm not a fan of distortion pedal... I'd rather use a Fuzz, that's more manly.

For the old Worm, The time honored RAT comes in at #1. Always will be #1...
The Joyo Ultimate Drive is a close second...and at $40 delivered to my door, that was good too....Nice drive and has great clarity as well...I was impressed...

    Blues driver and TS-9

I'm a fan of the Boss Blues Driver, and on my paddle board I also have an Ibanez TS-9.
I like both of these for my occasional solo, but only one at at time. They both give me (different) sounds I like, and combined with any of my electric guitars they shine. I like f/x applied with a subtle hand, rather than like a bulldozer or a battle tank. and these two pedals give me the controls I need to make a preset that I can stomp for a solo, which gives it a gain boost and and edgy sound that stands out from my normal more clean picking style.

And yes... the combination of a Gibson SG and a Boss Blues driver (through my Vox VT-30) is a really fine sound. It sounds great with my Epiphone Wilshire too. Both pedals do. The Tube Screamer is newer to me, and creamier seeming and maybe less edgy, but there's room for both in my style.
I've been playing my Fender Telecaster Deluxe HH through the same pedal board and a different setup on the amp. To me the Fender favors the TS-9 and seems a great combo with that, like I said about the SG and the Blues Driver.

    Frank,

You want a near clone of the OCD but with greater depth and tone? Want it for $40? New... Get a Joyo Ultimate Drive. You won't believe your ears and your wallet with thank you as well! Seriously, it's that good.:thumb:...And I am one picky old SOB with gear... to the point that if it's not to my liking, it's gone so fast that the smoke is still in the air from being launched into the ozone!:wow:

You can find 'em for under $45 or less delivered on Amazon.com and they got a great return program if you don't like it...But if you get one, you won't want to send it back....:naughty:

The manly option is to crank your amp and put a treble booster in front :dude:

    happy tom,

I am sorry to hear of your illness. Being sick like that does tend to make you want to do nothing at all until it goes away. Good news is that RAT's are loyal. That RAT will never ever let you down. I am, however, waiting for your comments on how you like it when you're back in the saddle!

    Speedy recovery my friend!

    Wade
