I’ve been reading about installing a bigsby b7 on a standard, and keep reading people mentioning flipping the hinge plate. I plan on using a vibramate v7. I was wondering why do people have to flip the hinge plate? Does the plate not reach the end of the guitar?

B5 might be better , and is flat. will work well with a Vibramate.
refer to my knock off B5 :) no Vibramate, but in the same position .

I installed a knock off B7 on my Flat top Custom Jr. was difficult with the curved tail . but did reach for me. again . no vibramate. SG_A1.jpg

    That is my understanding.

The space required for the butt adapter is achieved by tapping out the B7's hinge pin and flipping the plate around, then re-installing. Then everything mounts nicely.

    This is a typical application.
Good luck and pics are now required!

Good question, Sorry, but IDK the answer...IF ITS LOOKS YOU WANT, BIGSBY'S have them...if you want a Tremolo that is semi-stable to stable tuning wise.....I would try to talk you out of the Bigsby.

LOL, u kno, I always wondered if the Vibramate was even necessary on the "HORSESHOE" or any of the Bigsby's really...to me, it seems unnecessary and it's only going to cause problems with the height when putting the guitar in its HSCase?(Or maybe not?IDK)...

    TNX for that.

B5 won’t sit right on an arch top. IE: a Les Paul

B5 on an SG is ok, but looks incomplete to my eye.

B3/vibramate and a towner bar and a B7 works fine and looks great.

the best best thing the vibramate and towner stuff does is cover up the tailpiece holes.

read my sig line regarding bigsby’s

mine stay in tune just fine with the correct setup. Very few tech’s and home bodies do a correct basic guitar set up.

notice I said “tech”. The guy that changes your strings at guitar center is not a “luthier”

    b7/vibramate and b3/towner bar

The B5 is fine if there isn’t space for the tailpiece section, like on a telecaster.

I didn’t like the hinge extending where I put my strap button personally…so instead of flipping it I cut it off. Then I simply ground the end to a nice shape and drilled two more top mount holes. The reason I didn’t use a B5 was just because I prefer the long plate look.

Whatever you do, don't use a B3 like the former owner of my SG Standard did.

I kind of dig it actually. At the very least, I admire their conviction.

That was my thinking as well, the additional height . My Sg was good before with the stop bar factory .. but the sounds and action became Great after the instal !!! I agree "branding is just that .. branding and bucks.. screw you Bigsby. Side Note: I do prefer it over my mint 2018 SG Standard stop tail 61 . It just is more "alive " for a better term ..whether it is the extra string length, i am not sure . but something drasticlly changed with my SG Faded Traditional 2017, plus i tossed in a set Of Gibby Burstbuster Pros..
