Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer. Smooth creamy overdrive ;) for a more versitile Overdrive/Distortion, for me it has to be the RAT2 pedal.

You can't go wrong with a Tubescreamer. I also highly recommend the Fulltone Fulldrive II -- a tad more expensive but worth every penny. You can get even creamier overdrive and it's a very versatile OD pedal.

Tubescreamer TS9 modded to TS808 specs works just fine for me.

    1. Fulltone Fulldrive 2.
    2. Xotic BB Preamp
    3. Xotic RC Booster

To me the best is running the RC boost after the Fulldrive.

Not for me. I tried it once and didn't like it. None of that creamy overdrive. You should really try the Fulltone II first -- problem is you won't want to go back to another pedal. They don't come cheap (c. $280) but you may get a good one on ebay.

I wish someone had told me in the '60s that you could get the blues from a pedal.

Maybe I needn't have had such a miserable life. ;D

Having a good Blues Overdrive pedal will help alot, but IMO tone is in the fingers and I've heard many guitarists achieve a great tone with a variety of different pedals. It's just down to taste. There's definitely more great pedals out there, you just have to discover them. :)

Try a Silverstone made by MSD (Musician Sound Design). $200, but worth it.

Not necessarily, but they do have an excellent reputation.

I don't know if they are the best, but Fulltone and Xotic both deliver the goods tone-wise.
Run them together and the possibilites are endless.
The boost on the Fulldrive II really puts the lead tone over the top (for blues, country or southern rock).

And EH graphic fuzz is incredible with the right amp- if yuve ever seen the demo DVD, it IS that good). Well those are the three i have tried anyway.

SRV. Hendrix was long dead by the time Ibanez was making tube screamers.
