Those are super nice for sure. I just got an R7 after having the same bug hit. I played an R7, R8, R9 and R0 and found that the R7 was the best playing and sounding of the bunch (the R8 was a close second). All that and it is half the price. of course, it isn't as nice looking as an R9, especially a Murphy.

I wouldn't pay the flame top premium - here in the UK an R8 is £2000 and an R9 £3000 ??? I think Gibson are taking liberties with extra charge for £50 worth of maple >:(

However, they look very pretty. If you shop around you can get the look and tone for a lot, LOT less ;)

There "was" an exceptionally nice R9 Murphy for sale over here in the UK recently that was something of a Well Kept Secret.
It was sold very quickly and even the Mighty "Murphy Watchers" on the LPF never got wind of its existence, which was quite a feat in itself. I am now hearing rumours of another very similar one wending its way towards the UK...... Wonder whether that one will sell at a similar price? The last one went at £3999 with all Certificates etc etc, so I am keeping my ear to the ground awaiting news of the next one's expected arrival date. ;)

difinately nice guitars... i'd prefer a R4 instead, but either way you can't go wrong.

do it and you'll be glad you did...

I'm a big fan of the historic reissues, I have 5 at the moment, I really like them and from a good dealer they are cheaper than GC prices them, a pretty good deal.

all I can say is I love all those Les Pauls with the nice wood. I like the nice highly flamed tops but also love the plain tops and especially if they have nice grain pattern in them. I couldn't afford a historic reissue but did get a close second to that by picking out a LP standard with some nice wood grain. If you are willing to really shop hard, you can find LP standards with some beautiful tops on them. Just got to be patient and look at alot of guitars to find one. That 62ri is tasty looking :coolsmiley:

the 57 custom reissue is my favotite guitar to play, I have some that do sound better but I've had a custom since high school can't get away from them.
