Welcome to ETSG! to both of you...

current conversion rate: 1 pound = $1.40
so 900 pounds = $1260.00 US

I think it's a bit of a high price, but not outrageous.
Especially since you've been looking for something like this. That's the part that makes
the price fair. If you bid low and it goes to some other gorilla, would you feel sad?
If so, then pounce on it, and get what you want.

Then get it set up by the best luthier you can find or afford, and rock that sucker.

I like the wear that it shows. I don't believe in pristine guitars. The amount of wear that
guitar has accumulated means that it's made a lot of music.
The crappy ones don't get played that much. That guitar could tell some stories...

Sometimes you just have to pounce.

I am a sucker for that color, and the laquer checking! it's sweet, a bit high, but I am sure you can bargain a bit on it. Say £50 or so off.

If it comes with ALL of the original “case candy”, that might justify a somewhat higher price if you decide to part with it (AFTER you’ve acquired it, of course). It’ll make a difference to some buyers and they’ll be willing to pay extra for that.

If everything on the guitar is original, nothing swapped or broken, haggle a little bit and see what comes of it. I own a ‘65 SG Special in Polaris White. Love that color!

Sadly a bunch of parts have been swapped out and he doesnt have them anymore so it kinda put me off not having the original tuners and a few other bits. I will deffo have another think about it.

Road worn ? Intentionally worn or just aged by time and play ?

Intentionally or by lack of care; Mahogany is not supposed to check in the direction of the grain orientation like that. That is caused by temperature shock. Look at vintage SGs and you'll the the checking runs perpendicular to the neck.

He told be its worn from playing after i asked him how he achieved that sorta wear.
would you say its worth it still or not due to it being checked like that?

The discoloration is likely from play wear, but checking is never a result of play wear.

I would push him down on the price if you don't mind the wear and still want it. I don't know what the market looks like in Europe (it generally seems to be a bit comparatively inflated because supply is not as flush as in the US), but over here 900 pounds would be $1,250 which is what you'd pay for a typical used Standard in good condition. 2014 had the anniversary inlay at the 12th fret, which makes them generally less desirable, but they were also using the '61 Reissue specs that year, so that's a positive to most people.

I would say a fairer price would be like $900 or 645 pounds.

FYI, Classic White was offered in 2013 without the anniversary inlay or auto-tuners (which this guy has replaced).

Personally, I'd just hold out for one of those, although it may take a while for one to show up in white.

Thanks everyone for your advice ive decided to call of getting that one due to it not having the original parts and how shady the guy was being after asking him to lower the price a tad more. Im probably looking at getting my next in line which is a standard 61 with a vibrola or just wait for another white beauty to appear.

And again everything that was said helped me big time, im just getting into all this trading and marketplace stuff and i just needed a bit of help haha.

Nice 2014 SG Standard, very close to a '61 RI except large headstock.

its not a bad price but its not a great price either...Hopefully you usually get what you pay for, yes? SG Standards w/'57 Classics usually RULE and are my FAV SG's ! That said...too bad whoever changed the Tuning-Machines did not keep the originals.I mean why not ? DUH ? BUT IF you are planning on keeping it and playing it till the frets fall off.....and you are not planning on seling it down the road....Originals TM's won't matter.......just ROCK THAT BAD-A$$ SG !
