I saw it at Alpha Music (Virginia Beach) about an hour ago, and I couldn't pass it up.
    SG III. Serial # C 003.

It is a tone monster! I love my 61 RI, but this thing has bigger balls, and with the same pickups (plus one). The swirly wood grain caught my eye. It works better with my Budda than my 61 RI does. Much more appropriate voicing combination.

    Six-way pickup selector. Classic 57's X 3.

Nice. How's the pickup switch work? Like, what positions switches it to what?

    - just bridge
    - bridge/middle
    - all
    - middle/neck
    - just neck

    And something else?

    It's supposed to be: bridge/bridge-middle/middle/middle-neck/neck/neck-bridge

    It ROCKS!! :D

I'm working on some clips right now.

Damn, that's just about every combo you can get. Must have a good... tonal palette, as they say.

Nice guitar! I'm usually not partial to gold hardware, but that looks pretty good. I do like the one tone, one volume control. I have the traditional two pickup with two volumes, two tones and it makes for a magic trick to adjust mid song sometimes. I had the rotary pickup switch like you have (I had it on an Sg deluxe)...it offers many different tone combinations, but I found that hard to switch as quick as the 3 position switch. Nice buy!

I was at a local Gibson dealer when a customer was trying one out. Very nice. Looks like a '61 but has the neck joint of a Standard. I think he paid $1250 for it. But this dealer gives better prices than anyone.

Thanx fellas. It cost me $1469 including tax. I probably paid too much, btu I wanted the low serial number and the beautiful grain flow. I too do not normally go for gold hardware, but it seems to work on this one. 8)

.... paying too much is in the eye of the beholder. As long as you are happy, that's the only vote that really counts. Does the playability and sound live up to what you expected?

Playability and sound surpasses my expectations, along with build quality. This is how a gibson should be screwed together. My 61 SG ri has gone back to the factory to have the piece of tape removed from under the nitro-coat at the headstock/neck region.

No one could see what I was claiming to see. I talked to the dealer's tech yesterday and he said he saw the tape and sent it back. But what was funny is that when I first dropped the guitar off, no one there could see what I was talking about, and then finally the dude opened his eyes, and wha la, there it is.
