What is the closest current producted SG that is closed to the (now discontinued) 61 reissue? A friend of mine has the 61 and I really love that guitar. I know Guitar Center has a SG Standard 61 - what about that model?

If it were me, I would be looking for a used RI. Any of the 2015 models won't be anywhere close anyway. Cruise Ebay, reverb, craigslist etc. and wait for a solid used one.

2013 SG Standard. They're out there, used (and possibly NOS here and there). Pretty much a '61 reissue without the price tag.

P.S.: I've got one, and it is literally as good as any guitar I've ever owned, including plenty of vintage models.

A '61 RI, not new but in very good shape... a 2010 model with ABR-1 bridge and nickel hardware

That Guitar Center speical run, the '61 Standard or whatever they call it, is pretty much a '61 reissue with coil tapping. And they charge less for it than the current regular SG Standard for some bizarre reason.

This. If you are interested in buying new (and for this price why not?) this one looks like the deal.
