    Pot Code 1377018

    137YYWW

    137 = Chicago Telephone Supply (CTS)
    YY = Year
    WW = Week

    137 = Chicago Telephone Supply (CTS)
    YY = 70
    WW = 18

    Manufacturer: Chicago Telephone Supply (CTS)
    18th Week of 1970

    That is the earliest date the guitar was built if pots are original.

    thats pretty cool man!

    that patina on the headstock diamond is amazing. Maybe I am rare, but I love that yellowish color. Fingers crossed mine turns like that. 13 years old and still looks like new (sigh)...

    Thanks guys, the rest of the story of this guitar is I did buy it new August 1, 1972 for $400. I sold it 40 years ago for $350 and regretted it ever since. My 40 year old daughter tracked it down, bought it and gave it back to me for my Christmas present 3 days!

    It's been sitting in it's original case in a closet in Louisiana for 40 years! I'm in Alabama

    I read somewhere that the SG lower the neck back into the body in 1972 and "Permission to Land" confirmed that this guitar is 1971 or less. With the pots being made in 1970, thanks CG, it's either a 1970 or 1971.

    Does anybody know if I can determine if it is a 1970 or 1971? Does "Made in USA" determine anything?

    PTL, the best I could do for the moment. But it looks to be a 1970, full square cut out.

    1970 was a transitional year for several features.
    1. Block style headstock logo
    2. Made in USA stamp
    3. Volute

    A 1970 model can have the following:
    1. NO Made in USA stamp / NO Volute
    2. Made in USA stamp / NO Volute
    3. Made in USA stamp / Volute

    By 1971, most SG had a Volute and "Made in USA" stamp.

    If yours does not have a volute, then it is probably a 1970.

    It has a volute.
    Could be a late 1970 or early 1971.
    Not uncommon to use pots leftover from previous year.

    The volute gradually grew to its full size throughout the year of 1970. Yours is full size so yeah, as CG says, everything we've seen points to late '70 or early '71.

    Congrats on the find, by the way! She looks like a heck of a good guitar and it sounds like you have a heck of a good daughter, too!
