Not so long ago it was brought to my attention that Digitech had developed a virtual band pedal, TRIO. So I have been doing a lot of research and I have been impressed with it. Recently Digitech released a newer version, the TRIO+, which includes a looper, more functions and even an SD card to store songs on it. I am really interested and may eventually get it but would love to hear about you experience with either and your impressions.

Thanks in advance for you feedback.

I have the trio..I love it. As i mostly play by myself..i like the idea of being able to have a rhythm section. The pedal works pretty good once you figure out how it works..when you are teaching it your song you need to turn all the effects off and play in clean mode...no fancy moves..try to play the basic melody if its a complicated song. Having said that it does a pretty good job...even when its too fast you can dial down the tempo and make adjustments.

One thing i will say..you need to make a bigger investment to use the pedal properly than just buying the pedal. You need to farm out the sound to another speaker...at the moment im using a self powered PA speaker...any self powered speaker will do tho. You need to do this for it to sound right. Once you do,you will appreciate how nice it sounds and how well it works.

The Trio + is a much more advanced version of the trio. It offers more song sections, it can do metal.. can do simple and advance rhythms and most importantly it can do looping.

The Trio is more for at home use and practice..its not really a giggable solution for the individual guitarist. The Trio + on the other hand is more likely to be able to pull it off. The Trio + is what Digitech created after receiving all the feedback about the trio. They listened to their customers and made all the changes people asked for

I have both. I bought the original when it first came out and was very impressed with what it could do,
although as Karathas said, it is more of a tool for writing and practicing. It did win best in show at NAMM last year. The Trio plus has much more to play with, including an effects loop so that one can add ones pedalboard for the guitar, it also has 5 parts that can be utilized for a song instead of three, and the sequencer lets you program them in the order you want with repeated parts possible. Example: part one, part two, part two, part 3, part 2, part 2, part 4, part 4, part 3, part 5. Any combination, anyway you want to sequence them, and they can be stored onto the memory card for playback. The looper works the way any decent looper does. Redo, undo, record over the top of, multiple takes, etc. There is also a button to simplify the bass line which some complained as being to "busy" on the first version. There are 3 settings for this. The added styles of music in the Trio +, the fully functional looper, the sequencer, and the effects loop all make it much friendlier for the stage. I only use it for writing and getting ideas for songs, but it is an awesome practice tool. Prymaxe had a 15 percent discount when I ordered mine, and my Sweetwater rep could not match this. The final cost on the Trio + from Prymaxe was $254.95, which is better than the list price of 299.99

I finally took some time off my schedule to work on the Digitech TRIO+. Gentlemen, if you are a bedroom rocker or just need the muses to flow, or just want to have fun; The TRIO+ is an amazing tool. So it cost a lot of money, but it is my opinion that this pedal is worth every penny. It took a couple of hours to master but the end result for me was that I was able to put together three full songs. After a few hours I had to stop because my finger hurt like FUNK. I had not played for so long in a long time. Well the best thing is that the drummer did not complained about moving his set from home and back, and the bass player did not stole my beer. I am a big fan of the TC Electronic DITO but now with the TRIO+ extreme versatility the DITO may just go unused and to the sell my bind. The fact that you can store up to 12 songs with up to five parts each, out do the DITO 60 times. Add to the futures the effect loop and now you have something that becomes incredibly versatile. I put a Boss Blues Driver, MXR Micro Chorus and MXR Carbon Copy on the loop and was able to recreate some cool tones. The only limitation to the pedal is the sound of the drums and bass; The Fender Blues Jr. I was using is limited as it can response to the full spectrum of frequencies required for the bass and drums. But as described by Karathas an output is provided in which you can have the full spectrum sound of the bass and drums.

While it is not necessary I think adding the Digitech FS3X will expand the TRIO+ ease of use. I ordered one over the weekend and should have it early this week.

I would see what I can do to post some audio clips.

Cheers

Concerning the two outputs on this. One for an amp and another for a mixer setup. These are both mono, however the headphone output is stereo. What I do when using this to formulate song ideas, is to input from the headphone jack into my daw and then I can use my Superior Drummer program for getting better drum track/tracks. One can even dial the drums vol to 0 when inputting the song ideas from the headphone jack to the pc and this gives me the basic chord/chords progression if I added them with the looper first into my pc. Then adding a decent drum track using Superior makes it a great scratch pad for songs.

As a new guy on the forum, this post adds to those above in saying, given the right output, the Trio + adds that something when it is only you playing. I got it for the family sing alongs that happen at get-togethers. Typically, it was just me and my SG. Now, I have a bit of bass and some top hat! I also have the JamMan Solo to take the sequences I build and record them for the next family party!
