Confess I can't tell by looking at a pic. Would anybody know if this one has a baked maple board? Thanks in advance. Gibson SG | Trade Me
Too early for baked maple and looks too light for ebony. Looks like good ol' fashioned rosewood to me! And, like Gibsg said, it's a Faded, not a Standard like the seller has listed, which may be why his price is a bit high...but that could also be indicative of wherever you live too, IDK. Would it have killed the seller to wipe down the headstock, though? Yeesh!
That's what I thought as soon as I saw it. Maybe the seller is charging extra for his dead skin and house dust?
Urgh... ha ha. Thanks for the replies. I'm really after a P90 SG but that's not stopping me hovering over this one :-)
They're there if you look closely. The owner probably either lowered them or doesn't have the added pickup covers on all the way.
The covers themselves maybe a bit of an issue. Are they Gibson? What alloy are they made from? Did some guy in NSW put his "Hitone, no.1 pickup" from a Fibson, in there. I'll bet I could get him down to $450 nzd, man to man! ;>)/
yup, Gibson started making baked maple fb when the US government seized their rosewood stocks in mid 2011
I've got the same 2008 SG Special Faded, and my board (while lighter-colored) is definitely rosewood. They didn't start using baked maple yet in 2008.
