    Hey all
I'm trying to get that sweet overdriven tone that Don Felder gets from his EDS-1275 (SG double-neck for those not up with abbreviations!) on Hotel California, around the 4 minute mark, where he goes into the guitar solo, then has the "play off" with Joe Walsh... You know it? Ballsy, lots of tube breakup... :dunno:
I'm using my Gibson Special with 490s and my Ibanez TSA5 LOUD, and trying to control tone and volume with the guitar controls.
Any way I can get a "similar" tone?
I have mainly heard that tone from Les Pauls or EDS-1275... But I doubt it's the extra wood in the instrument that contributes to it...
I don't know if it's me or my gear, but I just can't get that tone. HELP! :wow:

Man a lot of that TONE IS IN HIS FINGERS.
Felder is a wizard that's often overlooked looked when we mention
Guitar wizards. sounds to me like he is using just a touch of echo
and reverb just a hair. But man what awesome TONE IT IS.
I was challenged by a young guitar player I work with to learn and do this solo I told him that would take me awhile quite awhile like maybe never.
watch his RIGHT HAND wizard I tell ya wizard!Good luck bro [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLcL4MkpJQ4"]www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLcL4MkpJQ4[/ame]

On second thoughts... This is gonna be impossible for me! I think I'm gonna give up before I start! :(
Wasn't his nickname "Fingers" Felder??? :dunno:

I remember reading years ago that a favoured recording amp was a "tweaked" tweed Fender Deluxe but it was so long ago I can't recall what the tweaks were. :dunno:

Okay so here we go but before we get started
Yes Java you are correct a Fender Deluxe with some mods and with my
favorite speaker G12H . Looks like a touch of echo and chorus by his pedal board setup. He takes his pickups serious as he supervises Seymour
and winds his own . And his street cred goes way up with me as he is wearing white converse chuck taylor high tops!

I also recall reading how he got that sound on the studio recording using his 59 Les Paul standard and the mid to late 50's Narrow face Tweed Deluxe. I have always loved his approach to feel. Not only does he play melodic in everything he does, but his texture and emotion to music is like no other. For me, that's the kind of solo I have to practice just to keep in order. I loose it when I don't use it.
