    Hi all,

Was in my local musical emporium earlier today, looking for a set of strap locks (ended up with some Schallers) and as I usually do, I went to see what they had in the used section... the usual crop of assorted stuff - and this...

Sadly out of my price range at £2500 but thought you might want to see it :D

Nice guitar. Natural isn't my favorite Custom color, but I wouldn't say no if they were giving it away, that's for sure.

 me neither, sadly they want drinking vouchers in exchange :(

I quite like natural finishes, but not on every guitar, some just don't look right...

    Works on SG's though :thumb:

Hands up, I'd love to have an SG with a split diamond on the headstock...

And on the subject of used guitars cropping up..... I received a promotional e-mail from guitarguitar this week, with plenty of used guitars from their stock, including a Bond Electraglide. I had one of these in the 80s - undoubtedly the most unusual guitar I've owned, and pretty rare since the manufacturer soon went bust. Some say 1,000 were made, others 400. The Edge, Micky Jones from the Clash & a few others played them. I ended up trading mine for a Strat...

Recently, I was trying to find out how much they're worth - rare doesn't necessarily mean valuable, and there were so many quirky features* I doubt many people are desperate to buy one. I didn't see one for sale, but found a few mentions of them going for about £400. Now I see this ones up for sale at £1,995.... If it gets anywhere near that, I'm gonna wish I'd kept mine! I might've been able to trade it for an SG Custom instead of a Strat.

*No frets, but a saw-tooth fret board, as an example. It was pretty cool & easy to get used to, but I wonder how much wear it could stand?

That's a Walnut finish, not Natural.

I love Walnut finishes, especially on SGs.

Me too. Just not on Customs. It's too plain, imo. Perfect for Standards and below though.

I don't trust "strap locks", I've seen my fair share of on stage fails.

While I wouldn't spin my axe as it's basically guaranteed I'd put it into a ceiling fan (or the ceiling for that matter), I prefer to use Dimarzio ClipLock straps.

Good enough for Steve Vai, and the beast Petrucci.

You'd have to be a complete yobbo to drop your axe with such a strap.

Yeah, it's more just for piece of mind for me too, not a gigging guitarist

The straps look interesting - only went with the Schallers as they look like the Epiphone ones that came with my Tribute... but nicer and better engineered :D

    Shiny! But you know me.
Function surpasses form in my case.

I'm actually toying with the idea of the Vai strap above for a touch more style than my basic black model. When your strap is rated for 150lbs and has idiot proof connectors screwed a bit deeper into the wood it's hard not to feel secure.

Of course there's the KISS cover band inspired. "Soft Chrome"

    Or maybe Bootsy?

That SG is really nice. Just sign the wifey up for one of those 6 mos. no interest credit cards and sneak down there and snag it while shes working. I mean that what I would do.

I feel like strap locks were the biggest misstep (besides faceplanting it on concrete) I have made with my SG so far. They moved it away from my body and also made noise I can hear through my amp. I got rid of part of the noise by greasing the strap lock posts. The plan is now to go back to stock strap posts and using those plastic washers that go over them.

I can't say I have noticed any noise issues with mine, but maybe some Vaseline or Astroglide would work...

I see lots of customs and those Captain Kirk SG's up for as much as you could buy a real 60's SG for. I know which one I'd spend my money on.

I still think those countersunk strap locks are slick.

I only have them at the neck joint on my SG's, V, and Firebird.

The stand off on is annoying, but I don't think it's worth the effort to convert all my strap buttons.

If I didn't like my system, I'd probably have the countersunk strap locks. I'd have to have them both sunk though, call it slight OCD if you must.......

I don't think it's a 1974. The pickups would have been spaced apart more. That's the year they moved the bridge pickup closer to the bridge IIRC.

I don't think I could get used to having a middle pickup but I've never tried so I might be fine with it. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to giving it a go.

And the eyebolt sticking through the fretboard on and SG makes you really hardcore!
