Mine was cool though, no matter how strict she was during classes. I wish I'd kept studying but it wasn't in the cards.

I'd come to class early and bring in guitar magazines and she'd help me figure things out - Ozzy songs and all. She lived a few blocks from where I lived, so after class, we'd walk home and discuss stuff like old-school Yes and Pink Floyd - she loved A Saucerful of Secrets...

    She was cool.

A good instructor can do more for you in 6 months than 10 years of mucking around on the Internet, that's for sure.

All good variations on a theme these! It is amazing how sussing out a few shapes you can move up and down the neck open up tunes. Not just E shape and A shape power chords, but sliding D and C shapes (and you soon see how they are related when you start playing them higher up) works.

Unless I need the power chord thing I almost always play a cut down F chord. Bass players do the rest :)

Actually come to think of it I most often play F chords in other flavours, fingered as x-3-3-0-1-1 or x-3-3-0-3-3 but that was down to listening to too much Husker Du.
