So I recently bought a vintage sparkling burgundy Gibson SG P90 special off of zzounds. When I got the burgundy sg I noticed a couple things right away that were very different. First off, It has an ebony finger board… which is not available for this model. The second thing I noticed was the neck profile was a lot thicker/deeper and not slim taper. I own three other SGs all with slim taper necks/ rosewood boards and they all feel/ look very similar. This one was not like that at all, and the thickness of the neck and coal black fretboard is very noticeable in contrast. This is exactly how it looked when I first got it so oil wasn’t a factor here, in regard to the black fret board. It also came with an outdated case? I’ve even requested a new hard shell case from Gibson customer service and even they thought it was an odd case to be sent out this year…. Any one else get an ebony board loaded on their 2021 sg special? Just curious about what I got here…

well that was my initial thought. That maybe it was just a really really dark Rosewood? Is there such thing, or does this look Ebony to you? I wish I could upload better pictures but the images are too large, but it’s jet black all the way down especially when I oil it. It does seem to be a lot more grainy than most Ebony I’ve seen but I’ve also seen some Ebony that had quite a bit of grain in it like mine? Idk

I think you have a nice dark rosewood board, there.

Yup - that's rosewood. As you can see in my pics, there's some visible grain.

Where is your case made? Post pictures. They use TKL cases from Canada and ones from Costa Rica and China.

That's definitely rosewood. No doubt there.
