Hi guys, it's been two weeks since i bought my first Gibbo SG, and although it's the best guitar i couldve hoped for, the factory strings are a bit disappointing. That is the way they are put on.

I now have to change em but i am wondering whether to carry on with the gibson brite wires or move to ernie ball (10-46) which I use on my other guitar. which will be best for my sg?

I use the Ernie Ball Mediums. Sound great and pretty reasonably priced. Don't care for Gibson strings either

Yeh I know the factory 1's are 10's. I don't actually mind the Gibson 1's but the Ernies are very reliable

I don't have any issues with brite-wires. Use em all the time.

If we're weighing in on strings, I bought some Gibson brite wires and didn't care too much for them. My personal favorites are d'addario xl 10, they work for me.

I use 9-42's, but Ernie Balls break way to easy for me. I prefer Gibsons and GHS Boomers.

The other, and perhaps bigger, question is steel (NPS) or nickle (PNW).

I also like D'addario xl10's, use 'em on my strat also.  I will keep Gibson strings on for awhile since my guitar is brand new and sounds great.

As far as I know they're on right,  what is wrong with how they were installed?

I use DR "tite fit" 10s theyre perfect for me.. i tried the "high beams" and hated em they completely killed the chunk.. but the tite fits are definatley worth trying out.

I used to use Ernie Ball's all through the 90's until I noticed how lousy the plating job was on those strings. Since then I use d'Addario because they are good quality and come in an economy 3-pack, and about twice a year my local music store clears out Gibson strings for $2.99 a pack and I buy as many packs as I can afford because I like them just as much or better than the d'Addario.

FWIW, I just changed the strings from Britewires to Fender 150's.... on the ES-333 with Phat-Cats. Totally different beast. Less upper mids, more mid-mids. That is, much warmer. Amazing change in tone.

Works for me, but maybe you'd like brighter... then stick with nickle plated steel.
